6 Ways to Gussy Up Your Weekend

Lei Chic’s guide to the weekend’s best events.

Shop

Big Bad Wolf

What: No huffing and puffing and blowing houses down at this event. The wolf has had a change of heart, and now, apparently, he’s into something else: building a hip, new shop stocked with trinkets, baubles and apparel for adults and kids. It’s been open for business for a couple of weeks now, but, if you still haven’t visited the edgy shop, head down there this weekend for the grand opening, when owner Amy Wong will have crafts for the kiddos and super-limited-edition swag from her old stock of goods. Check it out and then hit up the Art and Flea Sunday Market for a two-in-one shopping extravaganza.
When: Sunday, Oct. 11, 1–5 p.m.
Where: Ward Village Shops, across from MORI
Details: Visit bigbadwolfkids.com for more information about the brand.

Eat

Think Pink

What: Victoria’s Secret isn’t the only one making pink cool. The Kāhala Hotel and Resort is doing something super tasty in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Throughout October, the resort’s signature afternoon tea service at the beautiful Veranda will feature pink bites and drinks, including smoked-salmon sandwiches, raspberry macarons and guava cupcakes. A portion of the proceeds from the Pink Afternoon Tea Service will benefit The Hawai‘i Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Talk about sweet.
When: Through October.
Where: The Veranda at The Kāhala Hotel and Resort, 5000 Kāhala Ave.
Details: $35 per person. Call 739-8760 or visit kahalaresort.com for more information.

Shop

Bauble Head

What: When it comes to accessorizing, our heads are up in the clouds, and we’re always dreaming about new ways to add some bling to our favorite ensembles. We already love uber-affordable BaubleBar, but now there’s another reason to jump for joy when we shop this e-commerce king. Street-style queen and fashion world darling Olivia Palermo is the new guest bartender at BaubleBar, and she has released an absolutely darling collection of oh-so-chic earrings, necklaces and bracelets with classic art deco motifs, sweet bumblebees and curling vines. How did she manage to make a collection with so many must-haves? A lot of the pieces are now on waitlist or pre-order, so hop to it!
Where: baublebar.com

Watch

Artisan and Crafts

What: We love the shirts, we love the store, we love the shave ice. Aloha Beach Club (formerly Aloha Sunday) has a lot to offer to style-loving, aloha-practicing locals, so we were entranced by this gorgeous short film on Aloha Beach Club owner Kahana Kalama, who splits his time between one store in San Diego and one in Kailua. In this second installment of the short film series The Craftsman Project, learn more about what drives Kalama, his dedication to handmade, local products and his eye for art in this beautiful snapshot of one Hawaiian artisan.
Where: alohabeachclub.com
Details: Since we know you’re going to fall in love with this hula-girl-printed button-down showcased in the film, here it is for purchase. You’re welcome.

Trend For Yourself

What: We’re so hard at work putting together our Halloween costumes (hey, a D.I.Y. C-3PO mask is a serious time commitment) that we’ve barely had any time to think about the rest of our fall wardrobe. Thank goodness for Racked’s totally on-point trend guides. This one is chock full of 13 pages of good, stylish skimming, such as which colors to wear, as well as fun, Pin-worthy images, such as these crafty, animated versions of the season’s best looks.
Where: racked.com
Details: We Hawai‘i folks may be out of the coat game, but are you looking to level up your fall boot action? Done.

Attend

Yoga Go, Girl

What: Get your warrior faces on, because you’ll need them this weekend. In fact, you’ll also need your downward dog, cobra and happy-baby face. Yep, we’re talking about a yoga-tastic weekend that will be totally zen. At Ward Village Shops, surfer and yoga-enthusiast Gerry Lopez will host a free yoga class at 9 a.m. It's for all levels, so even if you're a Vinyasa newbie, you'll be able to join in. Later that night, attend a talk-story and signing of his book, Surf is Where You Find It. Feeling enlightened yet?
When: Yoga class with Gerry Lopez on Oct. 9, 9 a.m and book-signing at 6 p.m.
Where: Ward Village Information Center.
Details: Free.
