6 Stylish Ways to Fill Your Weekend Agenda
Lei Chic’s guide to the weekend’s best events.
SHOP
For the Birds
What: Delicate jewelry pieces are all the rage right now (especially when it comes to layering, our current favorite hobby), so the Blue Bird Jewelry Hawai‘i second anniversary trunk show couldn’t have come at a better time. Pick up some of the beautiful, elegant, gem-adorned pieces from this local brand, including dangly earrings, graceful lariat necklaces and fun statement pieces, like this mandarin garnet piece we can’t get enough of. Expect special discounts, other vendors and a free Blue Bird Jewelry Hawai‘i tote for each person.
When: Saturday, 10 a.m.–3 p.m.
Where: Ala Moana Hotel, 410 Atkinson Drive
Details: Get out your credit cards, because the first 25 people to spend $50 or more at the event will receive a $5 Starbucks gift card.
SHOP
Hot Shop
What: We were stoked when we heard that Kira Hawai‘i had quietly opened a boutique in Mililani Town Center—but the secret is out! If you haven’t made it out to the suburbs yet for some chic shopping, do it today for the Kira Hawai‘i grand opening. There will pieces from local brands Khush, Chief, and Sticks and Stones, and urban-cool separates, from denim cutoffs for day wear to sassy dresses for night. Plus, the Kira team will be giving out goodies. In other words? Definitely worth the trip west.
When: Today, 11 a.m.–2 p.m.
Where: 95-1249 Mehe‘ula Parkway, Mililani
Details: Call 382-7300 for more information.

SHOP
Gang Up
What: Quintessential cool-girl Alexa Chung has done it again, pairing up with AG Jeans for a collection that is as effortless as it is on point. In her last collection Chung, natural trendsetter, took a ’90s dip with a button-front skirt—and now we can’t escape those things. For this collection, she went a little edgier, getting her influence from motorcycle gangs and menswear for an “imaginary girl gang—a gaggle of delinquents charging across the desert.” Like we said: This girl is the definition of too-cool.
Where: agjeans.com
Details: Velvety corduroy, high-wasted, pleated, flared trousers? Our minds are telling us no but our hearts are screaming yes.
RESERVE
Glow Ahead
What: Luxe freebie alert: The Spa at Trump’s The Summer Glow Facial Event is happening next month and it’s not something you want to miss. This uber-glam spa is offering complimentary anti-aging treatments, including LightStim LED light treatments, Clarisonic sonic-radiance treatments and Tria Age-Defying Laser treatments from Skinceuticals. All you have to do is reserve in advance, then show up on Aug. 13 for an evening of pampering and refreshments. Not so bad for a Thursday night, right?
When: Event is on Thursday, Aug. 13, 5:30–8 p.m.
Where: The Spa at Trump
Details: Call 683-7466 to RSVP. Complimentary parking.

EAT
My Faire Lady
What: Your weekend is about to get a little sweeter (er … and more savory). Another round of Baker Faire is here, and this time you’ll find refreshing teas paired with baked goodies, which include creations by baker bigwigs from CakeWorks, Koko Head Café, The Pig and the Lady, Breadshop, Mission Social Hall and Café and, of course, MW Restaurant. On the tea side, the team from Tea Chest Hawai‘i will be toting along their wares, including Ocha-ta bubble tea, a blend of jasmine green tea, milk and mint. We’re already salivating.
When: Sunday, 10 a.m.–noon
Where: MW Restaurant, 1538 Kapi‘olani Blvd.
Details: Call 955-6505 for more information.
ATTEND
Dance, Dance Revolution
What: The topic is something we’re all familiar with: how communication between people changes in the face of tragedy. The medium? It’s a bit more unexpected: Murmurs is the first full-length modern dance piece by choreographer Chloe Amos, who created the piece to be a conversation between the dancers and the audience. Throughout the work, the dancers will examine the pains of speaking about tragedy, the awkwardness of trying to console others and the effects of silence during suffering.
When: July 26–28 at 7:30 p.m.
Where: Kumu Kahua Theatre, 46 Merchant St.
Details: $5 per person. Email murmurstix@gmail.com to reserve tickets.
