6 Shopping, Reading and Laughing To-Dos For This Weekend

Lei Chic’s guide to the weekend’s best events.

Shop

West Style

What: Make sure you get a good night’s rest tonight, because this weekend is going to be shop, shop, shop pretty nonstop. Head out to Kapolei for designs from one of our fave television celeb designers, Kini Zamora, of Project Runway fame. He’ll be teaming up with other vendors for a West Side shop-a-thon with beauty and fashion products from Doterra, Jamberry, Avon and more.
When: Saturday, Aug. 22, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
Where: 91-224 Puanohu Place, Kapolei
Details: For more information, call Tiare at 520-1415.

Read

Potter Around

What: If you’re a Geico commercial, you make corny jokes. It’s what you do. If you’re at work on an aloha Friday, you read the latest BuzzFeed article. It’s what you do. Nothing says “weekend” more than catching up on the best “reading” the Internet millennial scene has to offer. Maybe it’s because we spent half our life daydreaming about attending Hogwarts (What? We’re of our generation.), but we could not stop lol-ing over this string of Harry Potter-inspired comics about Dumbledore’s questionable decision-making. *cry-laughing emoji*
Where: buzzfeed.com
Details: Check out more of the artist’s work here and prepare to get nothing done for the rest of the day. (Unless you’re counting lots of laughing and endless joy as something.)

Attend

Duck, Duck, Cool

What: Duck! No, that’s not a command, it’s just us getting excited for the Great Spalding House Rubber Ducky Derby. Watch artists adorn their duckies in cool, unconventional ways (spiked duckies, anyone?), then cheer them on as they race their creations across the pool. Decorating session is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and racing begins at 2 p.m.
When: Sunday, Aug. 23, 10 a.m.–3 p.m.
Where: Spalding House, 2411 Makiki Heights Drive
Details: For more information contact Bradley Capello at bcapello@honolulumuseum.org.

Shop

Aloha Made

What: If we could make our ideal weekend, it’d probably look like this: tons of clothing and jewelry to shop. Oodles of snacks to munch on. Locally made as far as the eye can see. Oh, right, that already exists, and it’s the Made in Hawai‘i Festival, happening this weekend. You’re bound to discover a slew of new faces from the local culinary and fashion scenes, but you’ll also see favorite, iconic local brands that you’ll want to stock up on. Some of the booths we’re looking forward to visiting this year include those of Roberta Oaks, Matsumoto Studios, Bluebird Hawai‘i Jewelry and Kealopiko.
When: Friday, Aug. 21 and Saturday, Aug. 22, 10 a.m.–9 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 23, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
Where: Neal S. Blaisdell Exhibition Hall and Arena, 777 Ward Ave.
Details: Visit madeinhawaiifestival.com.

Shop Hop … Ahead (Edited)

What: Apologies, Fashionistas! Earlier we promised you that you'd be able to shop The Cut Collective’s intimate end-of-the-month trunk show this weekend—but you'll have to wait until next weekend. That's because The Cut Collective ladies are turning up the style factor at Made in Hawai‘i right now, where they're offering sweet deals. We're talking buy 1 item to get 10 percent off, buy 2 items to get 20 percent off or buy 3 items to get 30 percent off. (Forgive us yet?) You'll still be able to snag the flowing, flowery looks from Ten Tomorrow and the trendy, tailored pieces for petites from Allison Izu. And don't forget: Those cutting-edge, expertly made separates and dresses will be up for grabs again at next Saturday's 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. trunk show at the Mānoa Innovation Center. Two shopping events in two weeks? Talk about double the fun.
When: Friday, Aug. 21 and Saturday, Aug. 22, 10 a.m.–9 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 23, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
Where: Booth 189–190, Neal S. Blaisdell Exhibition Hall and Arena, 777 Ward Ave.
Details: Visit thecutcollectivehi.com for more information on the designers.

Shop

Farm Fresh

What: We always love ourselves a good farmers market. After all, those fresh frittatas and Pinterest-worthy salads aren’t going to manifest themselves out of thin air. That’s why we’re loving the new fruits of the partnership between HMSA and Nalo Farms: a weekly farmers market stocked with Island-grown produce and prepared, ready-to-eat foods. Look for vendors such as Happy Heifer, Impressed Juice Hawai‘i, Instapressed Juice Hawai‘i, Waimānalo Country Farms, Vixayvong Farms and The Pig and the Lady.
When: Every Friday, 11 a.m.–2 p.m.
Where: HMSA, 818 Ke‘eaumoku St.
