Being Green

What: Nothing says rad weekend in Hawai‘i like a festival devoted entirely to surf culture. At Greenroom Festival Hawai‘i 2015, you’ll be able to dive head-first into surf-inspired music, art and wares, with two performance stages, a lineup of seven musical guests and famous surf artists such as Nick Kuchar and Heather Brown showcasing their creations at the art tent. There will also be yoga sessions throughout the day, because surf and yoga go together like yin and yang. Best of all, you’ll be stoked to shop brands such as Greenroom Hawai‘i (of course), Surfer Girl Academy, Drift Surf and Sanuk.
When: Sunday, May 31, 3–9:30 p.m.
Where: Waikīkī Shell
Details: $50 at greenroomfest.com.

Do

Road Trippy

What: It’s the townie curse: never venturing outside the city limits and missing out on some of the most beautiful parts of our island. This weekend, do yourself a favor and take a mini road trip up to the gorgeous North Shore. Find your way with this adorable, new graphic map from local lifestyle brand Route 99 (which carries items such as breezy, casual tees and embroidered floral caps perfect for the beach). This pretty road aid has some little known facts, spots to stop at, and, most importantly, a guide to all the beaches along the North Shore coastline. Your Saturday to-do list just got full.
Where: Visit route99hawaii.com to view the map.
Details: From this, we learned the North Shore is known for having seven miles of surf break called the seven-mile miracle. #nowyouknow

Flight Years

What: Packing for your summer vacay just got a whole lot easier. H&M is already our go-to stop for hot getaway clothes (duh), but the brand just made the whole shopping ordeal so much easier with this Dress for your Destination guide. Whether you’re hitting a South American beach, staying active in a West Coast city or pounding pavements in Europe, these suggestions are spot on. Bags packed? Looking cute? Check and check. Now to book those plane tickets.
Where: hm.com (Scroll to the bottom of the page to shop the story.)
Details: Oh, and that black and blue boy’s haul may be made for the lads, but we will definitely be stealing one of those cool navy aloha shirts for ourselves.

Watch

Cinema Paradisa

What: Celebrate the genius of women filmmakers (preach, ladies!) tonight and tomorrow at the last two days of the Women of Wonders Film Fest. We’re especially excited to catch Makers: Women in Space tonight. The film follows the history of women in the U.S. space program, touching upon the prejudice faced by female aviators in the decades of yore, as well as exploring the actions of mold-breakers such as Eileen Collins who, in 1995, became the first woman to pilot a spacecraft. Yeah, take that. Who runs the world? Girls.
Where: The ARTS at Marks Garage
When: Friday, May 29 and Saturday, May 30, 6 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
Details: Free. Visit hawaiiwomeninfilmmaking.com for more information on the films being screened.

Simple Pleasures

What: We are up to our ears in swimsuit inspo here at the Lei Chic office (we are not complaining, trust us!). But when it comes to essentials, the sea of punchy patterns and hot hues can get a little intimidating. If you’re trying not to go overboard with your swim style, new brand Bikyni is a great option. Founded by former COO of hip, urban-chic online clothing boutique Reformation, Bikyni prides itself on minimalist silhouettes as a departure from gaudy suits—at a price tag of $95 that, while still a bit of a splurge, won't break the bank. Sounds simply lovely, right?
Where: bikyni.com
Details: And there's a fool-proof fit guide? Our prayers have been answered!

Attend

Lauhala Back

What: Weekends are for beaches, yes, but they’re also for crafting (all that pent-up Pinterest energy throughout the week needs to go somewhere). If you’re feeling like paper mâché and decoupage are getting so cliché and are looking for something a little more culturally meaningful, head over to Na Mea Hawai‘i in Ward Village. The Pacific culture-themed bookstore always has interested events and workshops, and we love the sound of Monday’s lauhala weaving one. You’ll learn the basics and make yourself a woven bookmark or bracelet—all within the hour-long class time.
When: Tuesday, June 2, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
Where: Na Mea Hawai‘i, Ward Village Shops
Details: $10–$20 per person. Visit nameahawaii.com for more information.
