What’s an InstaMeet, you ask? Instagram defines an InstaMeet as a group of Instagrammers meeting up to take photos and videos together—it can be anywhere and any size. Instagram hosts these events biannually, and this year’s theme, #KindComments, encourages people to come together and spread positivity. InstaMeets are a good way to share tips and network with other creatives while exploring someplace new. Not sure what to expect? Don’t sweat it. We’ve got five ways you can make the most of your first InstaMeet.
1. Bring a camera.
Whether it’s your Samsung Galaxy S8 or an Instax Mini 8, bring a camera to document the fun.
2. Introduce yourself.
It’s not about the number of followers, it’s about your IRL persona. You don’t have to share your Instagram handle on your nametag, but it always pays to be friendly to everyone. Who knows, you might just make that connection you were looking for.
3. Ask “Can I take your photo?”
It’s one of the easiest ways to break the ice. InstaMeets can be a great way to practice using that portrait mode on your iPhone, or to add material to your portfolio.
4. Try your hand at painting.
Artist and Best Of Honolulu 2017 winner Lauren Roth will be painting a mural during the event. Attendees are invited to watch and even add to the mural themselves.

5. Post, post, post!
Don’t forget to post photos during and after the event. Be sure to tag your photos on Instagram with #WWIM16💌 #MeetMeInHONOLULU #KindComments and tag @honolulumag @thesurfjack @laurenrothart. We’ll repost our favorites and even give away a few prizes!
All attendees receive discounted valet parking, $5 discount coins for food and beverages at Mahina and Sun’s, and Surfjack Swim Club membership cards!
