5 Budget-Friendly Halloween Costume Stores Around O‘ahu

What are you going to be for Halloween this year?

You know where you want to go for Halloween, but now you need to figure out what to wear. And, if you’re like us, there’s no way you’re going to reuse last year’s costume. Here is a list of five places to get your perfect Halloween costume at a reasonable price.

1. Savers

Each year, Savers’ costume collection gets better and better. This year, we saw a large selection of pre-packaged costumes, ranging from baby costumes to adult costumes to costumes for dogs. But, while Savers does offer pre-packaged outfits and accessories, most of the fun comes from mixing and matching new pieces with used ones. In fact, Savers offers “costume consultants”–staff members who will help you craft your perfect costume within your budget. Savers is the best bet for those looking to create unique Halloween outfits without breaking the bank.

2. Goodwill

Like Savers, Goodwill offers a variety of new and used pieces. We visited the ‘Aiea location, which mostly had children’s costumes and some accessories. If you’re looking for a totally outside-the-box (or outside the package) costume, Goodwill is the place for you. Hunt for your own pieces to make the perfect costume, and look out for price discounts based on the color of the tags.

3. FloraDec

FloraDec’s Halloween Headquarters offers a large, though sometimes pricey, selection of pre-packaged costumes. Complete outfits range from $20 to $60, with some outfits, such as a complete Edward Scissorhands ensemble, costing $150. If you need an outfit quick, Flora Dec has you covered. With ample free parking and fitting rooms, the Halloween Headquarters should have you Halloween-ready in no time.

4. Spirit Halloween Store

This seasonal pop-up store has every Halloween costume you could imagine. Costumes range from classic (think cowboys and princesses) to current (Avengers, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead). You can also snag decorations for your car, home or office, so you can really take your Halloween spirit to the next level. Pre-packaged costumes range from $20 to $60, and accessories and decorations vary in price. Watch out for the crowds, though–with this much to choose from, the store is always packed.

5. The Costume Closet Hawai‘i

If you are looking for a well-made, durable costume that will last you many Halloweens to come, The Costume Closet Hawai‘i is your place. This hidden gem is located in Kapahulu and has been open for more than 25 years. It offers a variety of costumes ranging from $45 to $75, as well as stage-quality makeup. Pre-packaged costumes are 25 percent off, but the real deal is in the vintage costumes offered on the racks. Yvette LaFontaine, owner of the store, used to design costumes for plays, and she ensures that each customer gets the costume he or she is looking for. Stop by and take a look today–at the end of this year, The Costume Closet Hawai‘i will be closing its doors and moving to online only.
