Aloha United Way has served Hawai‘i for more than a century, supporting the Islands’ most vulnerable through disasters and economic downturns. Initiatives such as its 211 Helpline, Safety Net and ALICE grant programs, and rent and utility assistance programs have aided hundreds of thousands of residents in recent years. In 2020, the nonprofit worked with partners to push out millions of dollars in assistance to those who needed it most, while several locally recognizable professionals joined AUW’s leadership ranks. “Like the AUW leaders that have come before us, we continually ask the short and longer-term questions: ‘How can we better meet this current crisis?’ and ‘How can we move Hawai‘i toward improving health, safety, and well-being for all?,’ ” said John Fink, CEO and President of AUW. “As we navigate the ongoing complexities of the pandemic, this team will continue to rise to the moment, while keeping an eye toward building a stronger and more resilient Hawai‘i.”
