Untitled, Nikon FM2. "I am drawn to the solitude and peace of nature, the quiet moments that are so rare in our chaotic lives."

Nightlife in Honolulu, Horizont. "Taking photographs while walking the crowded streets reminds me of stills taken at a movie set. Shooting at night without a flash allows me to get close to the 'actors.'"

North Shore Bathroom, Canon Powershot. "I was waiting for a friend and noticed the way the sunlight was coming through the colored barriers. I like to use natural lighting, so it was really perfect."

Shop Window, Lumix Panasonic. "I'm generally interested in reflected images in water and windows and the like. I'm always looking for that sense of taking reality and putting it in a different context."

Collaboration Light Play, Sony R1. "This photo was taken at Kailua Beach around 2 a.m. It was a night of pure randomness. My friend, Reed, ran around with my key-chain LED light for a good minute while I set up the camera and took the shot."

Makapuu Beach, Canon EOS 20D. "A group of friends and I travel around the island and look for nice spots to take pictures. We happened to stumble across this spot at about 3 a.m. I used a 30 minute exposure to get the star trails."

Bench and Rainbow by Ala Moana, Fuji Film Fine Pix S5000. "It's such a paradox, here in Hawaii we have all this beauty but we also have people who are struggling. It's important that we remember that."

Pipe Dreams Smokeshop, Horizont. "I walked around during the First Friday Gallery Walk. Using 1600 ASA film allowed me to get close to the crowds without using a flash."

Junior Explorer, Bessa R Rangefinder. "My son and I were just fooling around. It's getting harder for me to take pictures of him because he's always turning his head. So I told him to take one with binoculars and this is the result... the little explorer!"

Anna's, Rebel XT. "There are music shows at Anna Bannanas on Saturday nights for the local punk scene. I thought it would be cool to take pictures of something familiar to me. This is a small taste of the local punk scene in Hawaii that many overlook."

Mardi Gras in Chinatown, Nikon F100. "This picture depicts an evening winding down and three people still caught in their own world, unwilling to call it a night. The image evvokes a rich variety of lifestyles and personalities, captured at the same moment and within the same space, but with little connection to each other."

Convalescent Beams, Canon Rebel XT. "The photo was of a convalescent home on the North Shore. I liked the beams. I took a lot of shots of the run-down building, but this was the nicest one."

Throw Net, Nikon D200. "I was surfing at Pine Trees and this throw-net fisherman came along. I'm really interested in traditional styles of fishing. This gentleman threw his net and I was able to grab an image. He only threw one time. I had one shot, one chance. I'm really happy that I got it."

Energy, Canon Rebel XTI. "I really like playing with lighting and water photos. I like how it makes figures look abstract. We were swimming at nighttime and my friend was swimming toward me and treading water."

Wheee, Canon Rebel. "I captured this at this past year's Punahou Carnival. I was intrigued by all the lights flashing from other rides."

Tattoo Artist, Nikon F4. "Mike, from Rock Star Tattoo, was a customer at trattoria where I used to work. He's been tattooing Yuki for a long, long time. I asked him if I could photograph her many years ago, and he recently called me and said her back was looking really good."
