1. Find a new way to stay fit.
Year after year, that treadmill of yours sits in the corner, collecting dust. Forget about resolving—yet again—to actually use it. Get out and try something new instead, like indoor rock climbing or cycling. If that seems too intense, start off simple with a few exercises from the comfort of your cubicle.
2. Go on a Juice Cleanse.
If you’re bloated from all the holiday feasting, you might feel better after going on a juice-only fast for a few days. Find a few options here, and check out a couple of first-hand accounts before you commit.
3. Watch an epic surf contest.
If you have yet to watch the Eddie Aikau, we won’t tell anyone—as long as you promise to do it in 2016. Yes, the traffic will be terrible. Yes, parking will be crazy. But how can you live here your entire life and not see the contest that’s held in memory of one of the most revered figures in Hawaiʻi’s history?

4. Attend the NFL Pro Bowl.
Get your tickets to this much-anticipated game to support keeping it in the Islands.
5. Learn more about Hawaiʻi’s favorite foods.
You eat Spam musubi once a week and your go-to dessert is a malassadas, but do you know the history of these local faves? Click here to educate yourself, so the next time you have out-of-town visitors, you can give them some background on their next meal.
6. Support local fashion.
If you haven’t heard, Hawaiʻi designers are taking the fashion world by storm. See a runway show or two, and pick up the latest local apparel and accessories at HONOLULU Fashion Week.
Visit honolulufashionweek.com for more information.
7. Take your hiking game to a new level.
So, you’ve mastered the Oʻahu trails, have you? Take things up a notch at Kalalau on Kauaʻi. But be warned: This 11-mile trail is not for the faint of heart.
8. Vote!
Did you know that only 50 percent of eligible voters ages 18 to 29 cast a vote in 2012? (Source: dosomething.org) Every ballot matters, so make yours count on Nov. 8.
9. Adopt a pet.
According to studies conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institute of Health, pet owners exhibit decreased blood pressure, cholesterol and triglyceride levels. (Source: animalplanet.com) Still not ready to take the plunge? Then support shelter animals by volunteering your time or making a donation so others can reap the benefits of owning a furry friend.
10. Make your next trip an interisland one.
You don’t have to travel to the Mainland to find new things to do. Support local businesses by hopping over to another island for your next vacation.
11. Take up a new hobby.
As Albert Einstein said, “If you’re not learning, you’re dying.” Add something new to your repertoire this year, like beach volleyball, ballroom dancing or taiko drumming.
12. Brush up on your pidgin.
Pidgin English became an official language in 2015, so revisit the dialect of your youth and practice a phrase or two. Goin’ be good fun, brah!
