12 Epic Instagrams You Must Follow for a Glimpse at North Shore’s Massive Surf

Surf’s up! With the Billabong Pipe Masters and the Vans Triple Crown surf competitions happening this week, just about everyone on O‘ahu wants to check out the massive waves that are rolling in on the North Shore. Unfortunately, you can’t just ditch your 9-to-5 job to drive to the other side of the island. We feel your pain, so we decided to compile a list of Instagram accounts that showcase the beautiful and enormous waves that you’re missing out on.
1. Zak Noyle
You may recognize Zak Noyle’s work in our Mauka to Makai issue (his photo was featured on the cover), or from SURFER Magazine, where he is a senior staff photographer. Noyle dives deep and takes a few hits to capture beautiful and massive waves. Take a look at his Instagram and you’ll see what we mean. Fun fact: His father is commercial photographer Ric Noyle.
2. Clark Little
Clark Little, duh. He captures vibrant and mesmerizing photos of waves at shorebreak. With more than 1.2 million followers, he’s kind of a big deal. Watch the video above.
3. Alex Kilauano
This Kailua native is a videographer for SURFER Magazine and showcases his work on IG. You’ll find gorgeous videos and photos of the Pacific Ocean in all its natural beauty.
4. Eric Sterman
Eric Sterman is a drone guy. He captures pro surfers including Carissa Moore, John Florence, Jamie O’Brien and others from the sky. This talented North-Shore surfer/photographer/videographer has a knack for filming in a unique perspective. Watch the video above.

5. Jake Marote
It’s hard to imagine that Jake Marote started his passion for photography with an iPhone, before upgrading to a GoPro and finally a professional DSLR camera with a water housing. Since then, his IG has been filled with euphoric shots of crashing waves.

Get updates on the Billabong Pipe Masters competition. The World Surf League broadcasts surf competitions live on its website, which is mobile-friendly, too.
10. Reggie Abbott
If you’re not into watching surf videos or epic wipeouts, take a look at this calming IG. Reggie Abbot captures waves in an artistic way, as if time could stand still. Or it could remind you of that stomach-dropping scene in Interstellar. Either way, it’s still beautiful.
11. Billy Kemper
Professional surfer, or professional thrill-seeker? You may have seen photos of Billy Kemper charging massive waves for the Pe‘ahi Challenge on Maui (and winning the tournament), but you can also catch footage of him riding waves at Pipeline on his account.
