Local Brands Allison Izu and [ki•ele] Are Now Available at the New Nordstrom
These tried-and-true designers are stepping up their game for the new Nordstrom space.
Stage lights are on, the actors wait breathlessly in the wings, the music is cued up. It’s almost showtime at the new Nordstrom location, which is opening this Friday, and we could not be more excited. Last week, we took a behind-the-scenes peek at the local ingenue-bies the Nordstrom team added to their shelves, but we didn’t want to miss applauding a couple of returning stars that have whipped up something new for the occasion.
Welcome back to the limelight, Allison Izu Song of Allison Izu and Marylea Conrad of [ki•ele], two divas who are no strangers to the stage. These ladies have been selling their wares—accessories for Conrad and apparel for Izu Song—for years, but this weekend they’re debuting a little something different for fashion audiences.
For Allison Izu, that’s a new Plus Petite collection for women between the sizes of 16 and 28. The designer’s got a serious eye for outfitting petite frames (ideal for 5-feet-6-inches and shorter), and she pulled four favorites from her previous collections and reworked them to fit curvier sisters. The line includes a flattering dolman sleeve top (an Allison Izu bestseller), a cropped top ideal for casual skirt or jeans combos, a V-neck blouse with curved hem (bonus: It comes in a sassy snakeskin print) and shawl sweater cover-up. Totally mixable, totally matchable, and with day and night wearability, plus-size localwear just leveled up. Pieces start at $79.
Also on the marquee are new water-resistant (read: easy to clean) pouches from ALOHA=LOVE, Conrad’s new brand. Known for her fun, splashy jewelry under the [ki•ele] umbrella, Conrad created these beachy pouches sporting pics and graphic sayings with a similar, tropical feel and high-energy designs that fans will love. Conrad was hoping to capture the vibe of the Islands with these pieces, integrating playful terms and images that resonated with Hawai‘i lovers and locals. Picture these versatile bags covered with photos of the sun shining over palms, pineapples juxtaposed with cerulean-blue sea shots, “Mai Time” splashed across the front, or floral-decked “Aloha” type. $20 each.
We give both a standing ovation.
The ‘Ewa Wing Nordstrom will open on March 11 at 9:30 a.m. Arrive early! The store is hosting a beauty bash and morning party outside, starting at 8 a.m. Experts will be on hand to give complimentary makeup lessons and consultations and the first 1,000 attendees will receive an exclusive, reusable beauty tote bag.
