We aim to equip students with a vision for the future to “Go Forward with Confidence” (Imua Me Ka Ha‘aheo). “As a school community we work diligently to fulfill this vision through our school’s mission and core values,” says Head of School Gerald Teramae of Island Pacific Academy’s commitment to ensure academic excellence while nurturing and developing students in a learning environment and culture where “values matter and students are valued.”

“With faculty and staff passionate about inspiring great teaching and learning, we are dedicated to our mission to prepare students for college success, becoming lifelong learners and global contributors. Of equal importance is our dedication and commitment to instilling our core values of strength of character, generosity of spirit and a commitment to excellence.”

Located in the heart of Kapolei, IPA is West O‘ahu’s premier choice for a quality K-12 independent, coed college preparatory school. We inspire to become one of the premier independent schools in the nation, challenging and instilling our students with global-thinking perspectives.

Island Pacific Academy’s multisensory learning environment encourages students to learn through experimentation to become imaginative independent and self-reliant and self-directed individuals. Curiosity and creativity are nurtured at IPA, along with critical thinking and development of fundamental skills necessary to learn and apply knowledge to real world situations and challenges. The foundation for IPA’s rigorous academic programs begins in elementary grades, enabling students to advance to college-level academic expectations by their secondary years.

Curriculum from kindergarten through senior year involves inquiry-based learning (SEED - science, engineering, exploration and design program) in facilities with university-level equipment. World language instruction also begins in the elementary grades and progresses to the secondary grades.

Island Pacific Academy has been recognized for many of its programs, including robotics. Additionally, it’s earned a Grammy Signature Schools Community Award for music education and statewide recognition in the Sifma Foundation Stock Market Game event. IPA enhances its strong core academics with a wide variety of visual and performing arts, ILH athletics and enrichment classes to enable students to pursue their individual interests.

“Giving students the opportunities to connect with a larger global community through a variety of service clubs, events and activities including international travel allows us to instill core values at an early age,” Teramae says of IPA’s emphasis on character development and education. “They learn the power in human kindness and that even children as young as our elementary students can make a positive difference in the world.”

IPA is proud that members of its class of 2018 have joined the ranks of other alumni who have gone on to Ivy League universities, military academies, culinary institutes, private colleges and universities nationwide and around the world. “Our goal is to graduate young men and women whose academic performances equate to their abilities and talents, and whose actions reflect values that matter, equipping them to be the positive difference this world needs,” Teramae says.
