Wine Flights at Twist

The view from Flights at Twist over Waikiki.

There is a new reason to visit Twist at Hanohano and I’m happy to announce that it won’t break your wallet.  Flights is a new wine bar within Twist where you can drink wine, eat tapas and enjoy the 30th floor view over Waikiki—it is definitely a postcard-perfect eyeful.

For Flights, your menu is printed on five separate boarding passes with three wines listed on each. Think of each boarding pass as your “flight,” hopping from one region to the next tasting the three different wines. Your job is to choose a boarding pass listing the wines you would like to experience.

I chose the “Europe” flight, $13, which had a glass of wine each from Greece (Moschofilero, Boutari 2007), France (Chablis, William Fevre “Champs Royaux”) and Italy (Chianti Classico, Fattoria Le Corti). My guest chose a flight called “Anything But Chardonnay,” $17, which had a glass of wine from Oregon (White Blend, Sokol Blosser “Evolution”), Italy (Falanghina, Feudi Di San Gregorio) and Washington (Riesling, Eroica).

"Peking style" 7 spiced duck and foie gras bun, yellowfin ahi poke rice crispy "lollipops" and artisan cheeses and cured meats are some of the different tapas available at Flights.

Throw in some delicious house-smoked king salmon pastrami “nachos,” $14, and yellowfin ahi poke rice crispy “lollipops,” $13, off of its tapas menu, and two hours later we realize that we chatted through pau hana hours straight into evening.  The view over Waikiki had now turned into a dreamscape of lights with a full moon glowing above—have I mentioned that this is a great place to take a date?  Or, have a pau hana business meeting, as I saw happening two tables away.

Wine flights range from $11-$17, and at 3 glasses per flight that’s a pretty good deal—and, much better than playing Russian roulette with the self-serve wines at Amuse Wine Bar.
