Comedy at the Cupola

One of the many wine bars inside Amuse.

Wednesday’s Wine Lover’s Night just got better at Amuse Wine Bar, located inside the Honolulu Design Center.  Amuse has already been a popular pau hana spot for locals on Wednesday nights due to it’s half-off promotion, where you can buy a $50 wine card for $28 between the hours of 5-8 p.m.  But, now, you can turn your Wednesday pau hana into an entire evening with the launch of Comedy with Lanai.

Kalua Pork Quesadillas ($8) and Steak Frites ($15)

Go early and enjoy tasty appetizers like the Kalua Pork Quesadillas or, my favorite, Steak Frites and sample the various types of wine from each wine bar.  Then at 8:30 p.m., take your glass of wine from Amuse into the adjacent Cupola and sit at one of the many tables fronting the stage.  For $12 at the door, you can see four of Hawaii’s best local comedians, including Shawn Felipe, Kaleo Pilanca, Lanai and Champ, with some special appearances by Andy Bumatai.

A picture of the crowd inside the Cupola watching the comedy show.

They all did a funny job, and Champ did a great job of hosting—and, poking fun of his fellow comedians.  But, my favorite moment of the night came from Andy Bumatai, the comedic legend himself.  I love funny stories.  Especially ones that involve two cars, someone honking, an angry driver and Don Ho sitting in your passenger seat. I won’t give it away, but the bit was funny and most memorable for me… well…that one, and the pineapple pizza joke! HAHA… hmm, guess you’d have to check it out yourself to understand.
