I’ve watched Allison Izu Song and Summer Shiigi successfully grow their brands Allison Izu and Ten Tomorrow individually and collectively over the past four years. I can honestly say these women are winning combinations of beauty, dependability and style, just like their fashions. And part of growing their businesses is expanding inventory and staff. After three years in a cramped Mānoa spot, and one year under Ward Centers’ management, their new 11th Avenue space feels like a breath of fresh air, and a homecoming, for both designers. “I grew up in this area,” says Shiigi. “My house is two minutes away from the shop,” added Izu Song. “I call my husband on my way home, and by the end of our conversation, I’m home.”

Named The Design House, the shop is referred to as “the pink (or, as Shiigi says, dusty rose) one across from Ichiriki.” The sweet setup is inviting with a country-style front porch, which Izu Song says will be the husband hub. “The men can sit outside and chill, with the kids who will be occupied at creative stations full of art supplies, while their wives shop.”

Inside, the charming, three-bedroom cottage’s layout allows shoppers to browse new Ten Tomorrow and Allison Izu collections by color and style. Each room has its own selection of dresses, tops and pants, neatly hung in a systematic order. I got a sneak peek, and the first thing that popped into my mind was, this is like shopping in your fashionable friend’s highly curated closet.

Upstairs, a 700-square-foot workspace houses all the ingredients needed to make each design a reality—fabric reams, cutting tables and pattern cutouts. “Our style assistants, Mari and Sanna, also work in here,” says Izu Song. “They’re an integral part of our brands and have become family to us.”

After visiting the space and talking story with the gals (laughing most of the time), I realized this is more than a design house, it’s a place for shoppers, friends and families to feel at home. “Our neighbors have welcomed us and showed us so much love, and we want to do the same for anyone who walks through our doors,” says Shiigi.
