When I talked with realtor Carol Taylor of Coldwell Banker Pacific Properties about this one-bedroom condo in the heart of Waikiki, she pointed out one of its notable qualities: Instead of glass windows, it has remote-controlled hurricane shutters.

Though Honolulu doesn’t often come under serious threat of hurricanes, it is comforting to know that you’d be prepared.

Trade winds keep the 12^th floor unit cool, but if we get another vog spell like this month’s unbearable sweat fest, you can switch on a portable A/C unit.

The maintenance fee, which includes cable TV, hot water and sewer, is remarkably low at $377 a month.

Fuzz factor: Pets are allowed, but need to be reasonable in number and size. So if you have 11 Great Danes, this might not be the best fit.
