Honolulu named one of the top cities for trick-or-treating

If you’re planning to take the kids trick-or-treating next week, real estate site Zillow.com says East Honolulu has the best neighborhoods for getting your fill of sweets. Your odds are good just living in Honolulu, as our fair city has been named the third best in the country for the annual Halloween haul.

Now in its third year of Halloween number crunching, Zillow determines the best trick-or-treating cities using four equally weighted data values: the company's Zillow Home Value Index, which aggregates the home-value estimates for each city area; walkability data by WalkScore.com; population density statistics, and local crime data from RelocationEssentials.com.

The graphic below shows how we stacked up against the top and bottom cities in each category.

Interestingly enough, Honolulu didn't even crack the top 20 last year. In 2009, only five cities were named, and we weren't one of them. So we must be doing something right to jump all the way to the number three spot ... perhaps it's all that crime fighting that the Hawaii Five-0 team is doing.

Within Honolulu proper, the neighborhoods deemed most likely to be productive and safe were:

  • Kuliouou-Kalani Iki
  • Kaimuki
  • Waialae-Kahala
  • Manoa
  • Kapahulu

Have a safe and fun trick-or-treating adventure!
