TJ Maxx opens in Honolulu

Like many people in Hawaii, when I bought my first studio, I could barely afford to furnish it. The décor was pieced together from family handouts and garage sales, styling my pad into shabby chic … without the chic.

As you read this, TJ Maxx is opening their 1,001st store in the U.S. at the Ward Village Shops on Auahi St. The next two stores will open in Pearl City Gateway and Pearlridge Center, respectively. While they’re known for their off-price designer clothes, many people don’t realize the store carries stylish furniture and home accessories at affordable prices.

I checked out the new Ward store yesterday during a media preview tour, and found a wealth of home items that add pops of color—and actually look nice. I was drawn to these chaise lounges, which are small enough to fit into a condo, but big enough to lounge in.

If you’re into neutral paint and furniture, you can add a splash of style with designer-brand accessories, like these lamps and throw pillows.

They even have items for adding charm to the outside of your home. These items are good for drawing the eye outside, which is important in staging when you have a great view.

Real estate may be expensive in Hawaii, but furnishing or staging your home doesn’t have to be. At least Hawaii residents have another affordable alternative for creating a stylish environment.

TJ Maxx’s Ward store will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays. The Pearl City Gateway store opens on May 10, followed by the Pearlridge opening on May 17.
