Open house pick of the week: Kahala

It's December already, and before you know it, the Sony Open will be in full swing on Waialae Golf Course. Whether you're into golf or not, being close to the action is a plus, with movie stars and celebrity athletes here to play the course, and celebrity chefs in attendance to feed them.

This gorgeous beach bungalow on Kealaolu Ave. is perfect for hosting your own viewing party: the very open, 2,164-square-foot home flows into the yard with resort-style pool and waterfall, all situated on a 8,050-square-foot lot. With four bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms, there is a lot of room to stretch out. (Click here for details.)

It's one of only six properties in the area under $2 million; before you flinch at the price, keep in mind that there were 25 homes under $2 million this year that sold, on average, in 60 days or less. There's definitely a market for the price point, and this neighborhood is popular.

The home isn't ostentatious-it's 72 years old, but has had a very contemporary renovation so that you can't even tell. They've kept some of the old charm with little touches, such as the high ceilings, rustic tumbled stone flooring and the classic blend of hardwood with stone.

The beautifully modern kitchen features soapstone countertops and stainless steel appliances, as well as an island with a gas cooktop set into a butcher block large enough for even the most comprehensive of ingredient lists.

Happy house hunting!
