Hale Kaheka is more than just a condo

When I saw this brand new listing come up, I knew I had to blog about it. The unit itself, which is located in Hale Kaheka, is pretty sweet—it was remodeled in 2005 and looks different from many of the others (click here for details).

Most other units here have extra-tall bars/passovers from kitchen to living room, but this one has been renovated so the entire countertop is all one height, for an open line of vision. The kitchen sink is also custom; it’s extra deep, with a removeable, flexible-neck faucet for easier washing (most units have a shallow sink).

The rest of the 605-square-foot, one-bedroom unit is outfitted with new appliances, custom cabinets, wood laminate flooring, air conditioning units and ceiling fans—which are a must in this hot part of town.

While the unit is nice, I’m blogging about this listing because Hale Kaheka rarely has units for sale, and it’s one of those places that people “in the know” are desperate to get into, despite being an older building.

The residents here are an eclectic mix of retirees and hip urban professionals who like its central location to the bus lines, shops, and especially restaurants. It’s so convenient, it gets 83 points on Walkscore.com.

Most people don’t know that in addition to 24-hour security, pool cabana, and barbecue areas, Hale Kaheka offers recycling bins and a resident library.  Click here to see a video of the common areas.

One last thing: If you’re active in social media, you may recognize this building, which is referred to as “Melrose Place” on Twitter and Facebook. Many of the neighbors are connected to each other via social networking, kind of a virtual neighborhood watch. Make sure you check in to Melrose Place on Foursquare when you go to open house on Wednesday and Sunday this week, and note the tip that pops up.

Money talk: $369,000 fee simple
