Honolulu Nocturne

October 2007

Founded in 1986, 8 Fat Fat 8 Bar & Grille is famous for its fried rice, Fat Fat special chicken and crispy gau gee—family recipies from owner Nancy Yeung and her late husband, Chun Sau. Stop in on any given night, and you’re likely to see a mix of college-age kids, after-work professionals and aunties and uncles enjoying the daily beer special, a game of pool or darts or watching the game. “It’s a neighborhood bar,” says manager Mary Yeung, Nancy’s daughter. “We’re really comfortable and homey.” Photographer Naomi Olson took this atmospheric photo before the bar removed both signs early last year. 1327 S. Beretania St., 596-2779.
