Samadhi

Andrea Torres has been dancing since she was a child in Brazil, but it wasn’t until a decade ago that she learned to dance in the air. She was hooked, so to speak, founding Samadhi Hawaii in 2005 as the Islands’ only aerial acrobatic performance troupe. “It’s a small community of people who do it, because it’s hard, and people quit really quick,” says Torres, pictured with Jamie Nakama, Nicole Young and Chandra Miars. “I wanted to do this, because it’s beautiful. It’s not gymnastics. It’s more flowy, like poetry.” For information on the group’s performance schedule, visit www.samadhihawaii.com.
