With no limit on pints of the new lemon peel gummy bear sherbet and other favorites, we expect a frozen free-for-all.

Every Sunday and Wednesday, lines of frozen-treat fans form outside a small shop just outside of the Pali Longs and Safeway. It’s all for Asato Family Shop’s small-kid-time sherbet. Owner Neale Asato opened his Downtown Honolulu store last month, offering pints of the creamy sherbet and intriguing sorbets (ume shiso anyone?) to an ever-growing audience. Asato is planning to expand store hours and production in the next few months, but Sunday, Feb. 17 he’ll celebrate the new digs with a grand opening and crack-seed-inspired flavors.
If you really want to grab a pint of the lemon-peel gummy bear sherbet, dairy-free pickled-mango juice sorbet or ever-popular li hing float sherbet we suggest arriving before the doors open at 10 a.m. There are about 100 to 150 pints of each flavor and those go quickly. (I know from experience after failing to snag a pint of li hing float half an hour after opening.)
You’ll also be able to pick up li-hing and lemon-peel gummy bears as Asato adds candy and crack seed favorites to the shop. Asato Family Shop will also be giving away special goodie bags to the first 24 people in line. So good luck!
