Holiday prepping starts now. This weekend, head to Ward Village for a three-day event where you can shop for the holidays and be charitable at the same time, or train for the upcoming turkey feast with a 10-day event celebrating Hawai‘i’s culinary scene, with restaurants offering deals, promotions and special menus. Plus, unwind beachside with a sophisticated Waikīkī pau hana that gets intimate with whiskey, and grab your bicycle, don your dapperest duds and wax that mustache for a bicycle ride fit for a king.

Restaurant Week Hawai‘i
Friday, Nov. 10 through Sunday, Nov. 19
Holiday shopping can get expensive, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be able to treat yourself, too. A weeklong celebration of our Island cuisines, Restaurant Week Hawai‘i partners with restaurants across the state to bring diners special menus and offers at slashed prices. Diners have the opportunity to explore new flavors, enjoy old favorites and rediscover our local food scene and the culinary talents who make it great. In commemoration of its 10th anniversary, this year’s Restaurant Week celebration will span 10 days instead of seven, and, with more than 70 restaurants participating this year, this could just be its biggest, most delicious year yet.

Festival of Giving
Friday, Nov. 10 through Sunday, Nov. 12
Were you a little less than nice this year? (Be honest—Santa sees all.) If your 2017 behavior has landed you on Little St. Nick’s naughty list, we’ve got an easy way to earn extra karma points. The Ward Village Festival of Giving is a three-day retail event where shoppers can purchase a Festival of Giving passport to receive special offers and incentives at more than 80 participating Ward Village stores and restaurants (check out details here). Passports are $10, and all proceeds are donated to nonprofits and schools in need. Passport holders will also have access to freebies (such as free gift wrapping and complimentary movie tickets after spending $250 or more during the event) and giveaways, including a chance to win a trip for two to anywhere Alaska Airlines flies. Knock off your holiday list, help out nonprofits and get back in Santa’s good graces, all in one weekend—who knew it could be so easy?

2017 His Hawaiian Majesty Kalākaua Tweed Ride
Saturday, Nov. 11, 1 to 4 p.m.
HONOLULU first put a spotlight on the dapperly dressed bicyclists of the Royal Hawaiian Tweed Ride in our November 2016 issue’s Field Notes. Now, the club returns for its fifth annual His Hawaiian Majesty Kalākaua Tweed Ride. In celebration of the monarch’s 181st birthday, riders will gather their bikes at ‘Iolani Palace dressed in traditional British bicycling attire (think suits, bow ties, sun dresses and formal hats) and embark on a leisurely 4-mile ride through Honolulu. The affair concludes at The Lounge at Ala Wai Community Park, where riders can partake in some tea (BYO cup, saucer and spoon) as the club gives out honors for the event’s dashingest dame, spiffingest sir, most marvelous mustache and more.

Love of Libations: Bourbon, Rye & Whiskey
Friday, Nov. 10, 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Some love alcohol for the effects, others love it for the experience. For the latter crowd, we can think of no better way to spend your Friday evening than at one of the Moana Surfrider’s signature Crafted by Westin series. An elevated pau hana event held at Vintage 1901’s outdoor veranda, this month’s Love of Libations delves into bourbon and rye whiskeys through thoughtfully crafted whiskey sours, old fashioneds and Manhattans, and a casual lesson on the spirit’s unique history, characteristics and variations. Each ticket includes cocktail samplings, small bites and complimentary self-parking. Remember: All bourbons are whiskeys, but not all whiskeys are bourbons.
