Between belting out “California Gurls” while driving to the beach and planning your Game of Thrones season 6 premiere party (and declaring “Winter is here” at every ironically opportune moment), stop by this weekend’s shoppable events to refresh your season style, go see a flick by Japanese powerhouse Studio Ghibli and—why not—plan a weekend getaway to one of our Neighbor Islands.

Arts and Flavors of Hawai‘i Summer Festival
Sunday, July 9 at 11 a.m.
Arts and Flavors is back, with all the local pop-ups you love offering everything you need for summer and beyond. Support Hawai‘i’s entrepreneurs at this event, which will feature more than 25 food and product vendors, including: 19th & Whimsy, Green Tea Leaves Design, Pure Joy Hawai‘i, Chocolate & Vanilla Bakery, The Surf Couture, The Stick and the Ball and more. Popular surf brand O’Neill will be there with a special sample sale, and some retailers will offer their own exclusive discounts just for the event. This event’s featured nonprofit is the Hawaiian Humane Society, and you can support its cause by stopping by its retail pop-up and purchasing a trucker hat (50 percent of each sale will be donated).

First Surfjack Summer Market
Sunday, July 9, noon to 6 p.m.
The first Surfjack summer market keeps it cool for the summer with a curated collection of Hawaiian memorabilia, art and art things, vinyl and lots of surf-inspired goods. Shop goods from Treehouse Boutique, a local art and film retailer for enthusiasts; macramé by Spanky Kenney, wife of chef Ed Kenney; Hungry Ear Records, the oldest record shop in Honolulu; Olive & Oliver, Surfjack’s own in-house boutique; jewelry designer Katye Killebrew, and lots more. Trim Magazine, a Hawai‘i surf culture publication, will be there with surfer/artist Mark Cunningham and artist/board shaper Eric Maurus. If those aren’t enough reasons for you, here’s one more: puppies! This market is a fundraiser for the O‘ahu SPCA, a local no-kill animal shelter, and the group will be there with super adorable, super lovable, super adoptable puppies for you to fall in love with (and, possibly, take home).

Studio Ghibli Festival: The Cat Returns
Thursday, July 6, 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
Cat people and Studio Ghibli buffs are in for a treat with this special screening of The Cat Returns. Though a lesser-known production, the 2002 film nevertheless packs all the elements fans of the Japanese animation powerhouse have come to love and expect: a fantastical storyline, lovable characters and a heartwarming tone that will leave you with all the good feels. The story revolves around the young Haru, a shy schoolgirl who can talk to cats (basically, the fantasy of every future cat lady). After saving the life of one particular dark-blue feline, whom she later discovers is the prince of the cat kingdom, her heroic gesture is rewarded with gifts from other cats: catnip, mice—and the prince’s hand in marriage. Haru, despite an affinity for the species, has no desire to marry the cat prince, and so begins her adventure into the cat kingdom to meet with the royal family. Kāhala will screen the dubbed version of the film, which will feature the voices of some celebs you may have heard of: Anne Hathaway, Cary Elwes, Tim Curry, Kristen Bell and more.
