Did you know that 1 in every 6 adults in Hawai‘i still struggles with reading and writing? Literacy is an essential tool for building a better life, but poverty and under-education can make learning to read and write a major challenge for adults and keiki alike. Local nonprofit Hawai‘i Literacy helps those who struggle with literacy with volunteer-run tutoring programs, English language classes and more, all offered free of charge. Help support Hawai‘i Literacy at Murphy’s Bar & Grill’s 10th annual Pau Hana Block Party for Literacy, featuring live music by Maneki Nekos. Each $45 ticket includes two drinks, one dinner plate and your pick of delectable bite-size desserts crafted by Mignardise bakery owner Michele Fusato.
$45, Murphy’s Bar & Grill, 2 Merchant St. For more information and to purchase tickets, go here.
