Foodies, prepare your taste buds for some delicious, finger-lickin’ flavor. The Honolulu BBQ Festival returns to Waikīkī this Saturday with a feast of classic Southern dishes including smoked beef brisket and pulled pork, mac ’n’ cheese, peach baked beans, sweet potato casserole and more. Save room for a slice of classic Southern banana cream pie and berry crisp. Enjoy your bites with live blues, rock and country music headlined by up-and-coming country artist Kalsey Kulyk.

Salt Liko + Matt Bruening Summer Pop-Up

Friday, June 1 through Monday, June 4

Grab your wallet, grab your friends and prepare your closet for some gorgeous new fashion. This Friday through Monday, Salt Liko and Matt Bruening will hold their first pop-up of the year at Sig On Smith in Chinatown. Normally open Fridays only, the locally loved aloha shirt shop will be open Friday evening (7 to 9 p.m.), Saturday (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.), Sunday (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.) and Monday (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.) to host the pop-up. Salt Liko will showcase its latest collection, titled Kaiāulu, featuring a bright seafoam-colored print that channels Island summers. Matt Bruening will feature his summer capsule collection of handmade dresses, tops and pants, as well as graphic tees from his Feel No Waves campaign.

The Waikīkī Beachcomber kicks off the summer with Terrace of Modern Art, a free monthly art series held at the hotel’s poolside terrace and Hawaiian Aroma Caffe. The first event in the series will feature works by Uruguay-born Eduardo Bolioli, an award-winning artist who lives in Hawai‘i and is most known for using a mix of acrylics and Posca pens to create bold, intricate surf-inspired paintings.

A Little Pop From Tokyo

Opens Friday, June 1

Earlier this month, Tokyo-based fashion brand Uniqlo announced it will be opening its first-ever Hawai‘i store in Ala Moana Center sometime this fall. We rejoiced, then sobbed over the upcoming Uniqlo-less months we’d have to endure. Dry those eyes and head to Ala Moana Center this weekend for your dose of trendy-casual Japanese fashion. Uniqlo opens A Little Pop From Tokyo, a 2,500-square-foot pop-up store, on Friday with 200 different, better-than-basic graphic tees for men, women and keiki. Featured collections include design collabs with Disney, best-selling Japanese manga magazine Weekly Shonen Jump, iconic San Francisco artist Barry McGee and more.
