Hale ‘Aina award-winning chef Kevin Lee of Pai Honolulu offers his spin on traditional Chinese foods for five nights only. The set menu starts with agedashi XO turnip cake with miso-cured Ali‘i mushrooms and smoked akule, followed by boneless pork spareribs with black bean noodles, steamed ginger fish and finished with an almond pudding fruit tart.

Young the Giant
January 24 and 25, 8 p.m.
Supporting their latest album, Mirror Master, Young the Giant returns to Hawai‘i for two shows this weekend. Known as much for their radio hits as their “In the Open” YouTube series—in which they perform stripped-down versions of their songs while wandering the beach, huddled under a intertwined branches or in a cave—the group puts on an unforgettable live show with a good dose of cowbell and ‘ukulele along with more typical alt-rock instruments. Swing by either night for intimate crooning by vocalist Sameer Gadhia mixed with favorite heavy hitters like “My Body,” but buy tickets soon: BAMP Project posted a low-ticket warning last week, and the Saturday show just sold out Thursday morning. Don’t worry if you missed the legendary duo of Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock last night: There are four more chances to catch the Aussie duo live at the Blue Note and sing “All Out of Love” as if you just caught up with your lover at the airport gate and don’t want them to leave (remember when that was a thing? Did people actually do that?). Expect to hear all the romantic hits: “Lost in Love,” “The One That You Love,” “Making Love Out of Nothing At All.” We’re sensing a theme here.

Paws on the Path and Urban PetFest
Saturday, January 25; Paws on the Path starts at 8 a.m. and Urban PetFest runs from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.
The weather gods appear to be blessing us with another sunny weekend—so leash the pooch and head outside for a doggy day date double feature. Start the morning with the Hawaiian Humane Society’s monthly hiking club at Moanalua Valley Trail for a scenic hike that will definitely push you closer to those 2020 fitness goals. After a healthy dose of exercise, head over to Kaka‘ako’s popping brunch scene at Salt for some well-earned nibbles and tipples for you and some treats and toys from Urban PetFest (located in Salt’s covered area known as The Barn) for your fur baby. The pop-up event promises market stalls filled with goodies for all animals, a dog show, entertainment, contests and free belly rubs from passersby for all the goodest boys and girls. Don’t forget to bring their bowls and lots of water.
