No one can deny our love for that delicious block of mystery meat, and this weekend Hawai‘i’s annual celebration of Hormel Spam returns to take over Kalākaua Avenue with live entertainment, Hawai‘i-made crafts, Spam merchandise and more than 20 local restaurants showcasing the many ways the canned luncheon meat can be enjoyed: Spam tacos, Spam mochi waffles, Spam lumpia, Spam chocolate tarts … the list goes on. Bring a can or two of your own to donate to Hawai‘i Foodbank at the event.

Gypsy Jazz Night with Surfrider Foundation O‘ahu

The Surfrider Foundation O‘ahu and platinum-certified Ocean Friendly Restaurant Aloha Beer Co. celebrate Earth Month with a Friday pau hana event that’s equal parts fun, boozy and charitable. Your $25 admission ticket gets you two beers to enjoy with the live sounds of Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award-winning band Hot Club of Hulaville. Autograf, an electronic DJ trio known for its ethereal sound, will make its way to Hawaiian Brian’s for a one-night-only concert in Honolulu. Comprising two art students and a derivatives trader, Autograf has mastered a futuristic, instrumental-forward sound that has led to its popularity in the electronic music world. If you’re an art buff, enjoy the Andy-Warhol-inspired art installations during the show made by the artists themselves.

UH Mānoa Fashion Show

Every Spring semester, the graduating class of University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa’s Fashion Design and Merchandising Program puts on a fashion show, giving senior and junior designers a chance to showcase their creativity and talents on the runway. Meet Hawai‘i’s next generation of style stars at this year’s show, titled Sweet Escape, which will be held at the Hawai‘i State Art Museum.

Winner of the 37th annual Hawai‘i International Film Festival’s Made in Hawai‘i Award, the documentary Out of State follows two incarcerated Native Hawaiians who reconnect with their indigenous roots while serving time at a prison in Arizona. Once out, David and Hale return to Hawai‘i eager for a fresh start, but quickly discover life after prison comes with its own struggles. Hawai‘i State Art Museum will have a free screening of the film followed by a talk story with Out of State producer Beau Bassett and director/co-producer Ciara Lacy.
