The Best Ways to Shop and Play This Weekend

Lei Chic's guide to the weekend's best events.

SHOP

Getting Fresh

What: We always look forward to that Saturday of the month when we get to go local-shopping crazy at Honolulu Night Market. This month, get your beachy jewelry fix at the Drift Boutique booth, snag some cool yoga apparel at Mahiku Activewear and pick up Hawaiian-inspired tees at Teano. As if things couldn't get any better, this month’s event will include a pop-up dinner (reservations required) by Ho‘oku‘i. The dinner theme is “inihaw”, which means to grill in Tagalog, and the food will consist of traditional Filipino backyard cooking.
When: Saturday, Jan. 17, 6–11 p.m. Pop-up dinner starts at 7.
Where: 449 Cooke St.
Details: Pop-up dinner tickets are limited and $50. Order them here.

WIN

Eat It Up

What: That bowl of ramen you posted last week got more than 50 likes. And your gelato cone the week before? Talk about breaking the Internet. What can you say? The only thing you love more than eating your food is photographing it, which is why we have the perfect contest for you. Post a photo on Instagram when you visit one of Ala Moana Center’s eight Hale ʻAina Award winners through Jan. 31 and you get a chance to win one of four $100 Ala Moana Center gift cards. Restaurants include The Fat Greek, Goma Tei Ramen, Assaggio, Jade Dynasty Seafood Restaurant, Mariposa Restaurant, Morton’s The Steakhouse, The Pineapple Room and Vintage Cave Honolulu.
When: Through Jan. 31
Where: Ala Moana Center
Details: Mention “#HaleAinaSweeps” to get a special free treat. View the list of participating restaurants here.

Saturday Fever

What: The bad news? You can’t live inside a Kate Spade Saturday store. (Security doesn’t like it, trust us.) The good news? Now that West Elm has collaborated with the adorable brand, you can bring all that cuteness to your own home. The collection has all the bright colors, graphic patterns and fun-filled perkiness you’d expect from girly, feel-good Kate Spade Saturday. It includes a slew of pillow covers, cheery rugs and wall art, bedding and even a few pieces of furniture that we’re absolutely sure would turn our apartment into the happiest place on earth.
Where: westelm.com
Details: Can we just live in this chair forever?

Pickin' Marsala

What: We loved Pantone’s color pick for 2014. In fact, we ate it right up. Which is why we’re excited to start spotting the company’s 2015 pick, marsala (a deep, rusty neutral that works on a variety of skin tones), in our wardrobes, on our plates and in our beauty bag, thanks to the Sephora x Pantone collaboration. We’re loving the classic gold packaging, versatile cheek and eye palettes, those layering lipsticks in a variety of shades (perfect for creating that of-the-moment ombre look), mascara and brow highlighters, and metallic liquid liners that are red-hot.
When: Available for a limited time.
Where: Sephora, 2250 Kalākaua Ave.
Details: Why marsala? So glad you asked.

BUY

Farm to Table

What: Dinner under the open sky—what could be better? And when we say “under the open sky,” we mean it. There are few places you’d see more open sky than on the gloriously open grounds of Kualoa Ranch. Throw into that picture-perfect mix the talents of chef Mark Noguchi for the traveling “restaurant without walls” Outstanding in the Field, which boasts gorgeous backdrops for its communal feast that looks to stimulate discussion about food, community and the meaning of place. Celebrate farmers, food culture and, of course, the joy of eating at this event, which is sure to be worth the splurge. And make sure you buy your tickets now before they sell out.
When: Sunday, Jan. 25, 3 p.m.
Where: Kualoa Ranch, 49-560 Kamehameha Highway
Details: $210. Order tickets here.

READ

Movie Over

What: It was a busy year for book-loving movie-watchers. Gone, Girl was coming and of course you had to read the book because, like, all your friends already had. Then you had to watch Divergent because everyone promised it was the next Hunger Games (it wasn’t), and then The Fault In Our Stars came out and you were just like, “I can’t.” Sorry, but this year will be even crazier, so set up your reading list now. We won’t even mention Fifty Shades of Grey, because, duh, but you won’t want to miss out on Serenawhich will star Bradley Cooper and a murderous Jennifer Lawrence. Also on our list? The Moon and the Sun, in which Pierce Brosnan’s King Louis XIV seeks immortality by trying to steal the life force of a sea monster, and The Revenant, where Leo DiCaprio is a vengeful 19th-century fur trapper who gets mauled by a bear and then left for dead by thieves.
When: Check out the release dates here.
Details: We never liked Moby Dick in high school, but add epic whale shots, a true story and, of course, Chris Hemsworth, and we are so there.
