The Best Places to Shop and Things to Do This Weekend

Lei Chic’s guide to the weekend's best events.

SHOP

Flea Smitten

What: Get ready to be spooked—this month’s Art and Flea theme is Monsters Invade Tokyo, which is perfect for Halloween (plus, who doesn’t love a good Japanese monster flick?). Fun dino earrings by Apple Tree Café SF, monster tees from Big Pineapple and edgy jewelry from Munchken Jewelry will be available. Plus, Glossy Hawai‘i will host a Halloween nail-art bar for you to get your pointers in shape before Friday’s festivities.
When: Thursday, Oct. 30, 5–10 p.m.
Where: 1020 Auahi St., Building 3
Details: Visit artandflea.com for more information.

WATCH

Feeling Festive

What: We love getting our film on each year with the Hawai‘i International Film Festival. Something else we love? Freebies. Tomorrow, get the best of both worlds before trick-or-treating—er, you know, as a chaperone—and stop by Ward Centers for a free screening of Hotel Transylvania. This adorable animated flick is about a resort run by Dracula himself for monsters to live it up sans humans … until one sneaks in. Plus, it stars Adam Sandler, who could make us laugh without even trying.
When: Friday, Oct. 31, 6 p.m.
Where: IBM Building Courtyard
Details: Visit for more information on the rest of the festival.

SHOP

Hey, Jean

What: Denim? Yawnfest. Denim is your go-to for when you’re lounging around the house or working in the yard. If you think you’ve seen denim, think again: Designer Simone Rocha and J Brand have teamed up for a collab that showcases denim like never before. We’re talking frills and sweet pinks. It’s like denim had a (totally girly) makeover.
Where: View the lookbook here.
Details: The pieces will be available Nov. 14 at jbrandjeans.com

EAT

Curb Appeal

What: Could there be a more appropriate theme for a Halloween-inspired Eat The Street than Dia De Los Muertos? This year’s event will feature a costume contest every hour, a best taco contest, a fall photo booth and a pumpkin patch for the kids. Oh, and food that’s to die for (duh). We’ll be raking in Il Gelato, Baja Style Mexican, Paul’s Poppers, Uncle’s Kitchen and Cake Works. Talk about so good, it’s scary.
When: Friday, Oct. 31, 4–9 p.m.
Where: 555 South St.
Details: No need to rush back to the neighborhood for trick or treating—kids are welcome to trick or treat at each food truck.
