Crowds invade downtown to celebrate the luck-o-the-Irish

Live music, 3,000 oysters, 1,500 pounds of corned beef and the novelty of drinking beer on the streets of downtown Honolulu. It’s time again for Murphy’s Bar and Grill’s 18th annual Saint Patrick’s Day Block Party on Thursday, March 17.

Food tents and music stages will be scattered on the streets surrounding Murphy’s and the parking lot across the street. With more than a dozen beers on tap and Gaelic steaks and other Irish specialties served, the block party attracts upwards of 10,000 people each year.

Murphy’s owner, Don Murphy, takes advantage of the large crowd to donate to one of his favorite charities, The Hawaii Children’s Cancer Foundation. For every pound of corned beef sold on Thursday, Murphy will donate one dollar. Compadres Bar and Grill will be serving food to raise funds for the Special Olympics.

Murphy’s is open on March 17 from 11 a.m. to midnight, with food and drink service on the streets from 5:30 to 10 p.m.
