Party pics: Contact 2016 Foreign and Familiar Opening Pāʻina

Contact, an annual juried exhibition of contemporary art that makes it a mission to explore the concept of “contact” as it relates to the Hawaiian Islands, its people and their experiences, threw a Hawaiian-style pāʻina Thursday evening to celebrate the opening, with 57 artists represented.
Each piece in the surprisingly cohesive and very well-done show, juried by Herman Pi’ikea Clark and Isabella Ellaheh Hughes, was its creator’s interpretation of the experiences of communities that have migrated to and from Hawaii and the subsequent impact of such movements.
