Over the Edge
Have you ever seen window washers dangling off the side of a high-rise building and wished you could join them? Or is that just me?
If you do have Spiderman dreams every now and then, you’ll have a chance to indulge them, and without having to do any tedious squeegee work. Special Olympics Hawaii is organizing a fund-raiser in which anyone who raises at least $1,000 will get to rappel 31 stories down the Sheraton Waikiki, the tallest building in Waikiki. The Nov. 13 event is being run by Over the Edge, a Mainland company that has been sending people down the sides of buildings since 2003. (Without a single “incident,” its Web site boasts.)
All necessary safety equipment—helmet, ropes, rosary—is provided, and there are a couple of reasonable limitations: you need to be at least 18 years old, and weigh less than 300 pounds. But otherwise, the opportunity to fling yourself off the roof of the Sheraton Waikiki is yours for the taking.
