Culture Club
What: They say that salt water is the cure for anything. Knowing how a dip in the ocean feels after a long week, we believe it. Designer and cultural icon extraordinaire Sig Zane obviously loves the big blue, too—his latest limited-release collection features limu and kupe‘e (a type of shell) designs. He’ll premiere the pieces at Bishop Museum’s Traditions of the Pacific lecture series, which is, unfortunately, sold out, but you can still stop by to shop the pieces at the Sig Zane pop-up.
When: Correction: The pop-up shop will be open on Saturday, Feb. 7, 7—9 p.m.
Where: Bishop Museum, 1525 Bernice St.
Details: Call 847-3511 for more information. Bishop Museum membership required to shop the collection. Membership can be purchased onsite.

Let’s Rap
What: You are pretty serious about your hip-hop. And I mean serious: You know your favorite artist’s rap sheet by heart, you speak fluent Kanye and your processional song was Lauryn Hill’s Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You. That’s why someone who doesn’t joke about the beat will be all about the Rap Research Lab Workshop “Love Raps: A Survey of Love in Hip Hop” this Saturday. Experience the Hip Hop Word Count ethnographic database, the latest project from Tahi Hemphill, an advertising creative who blends data-driven analysis, graphic design and hip hop culture in his work. You’ve always turned to hip-hop for your important life questions—now it’s just way easier to parse through all that data.
When: Saturday, Feb. 7, 1–4 p.m.
Where: Kaka'ako Agora, 441 Cooke St.
Details: RSVP for free here.

Butik Call
What: Your Friday pau hana probably involves something like margaritas and cosmos. Not a bad idea, but we’ll do you one better: Instead of hitting the sauce, hit the shop at Fashion Friday at The Butik. You’ll find Komakai Jewelry and Kira Hawai‘i popping up with pretty baubles to soften the blows of the work week. There will also be beauty products by Natural Aloha and Pualani Soap and gourmet desserts by Chocolate and Vanilla Bakery. Oh, and did we mention there will be 20 percent off the entire store? Talk about happy hour.
When: Friday, Feb. 6, 4–8 p.m.
Where: The Butik, 1067 Kapi‘olani Blvd.
Details: Enter a drawing at the event for a chance to win a swag bag with free items and coupons from The Butik, Chocolate and Vanilla Bakery, Pualani Soap, Natural Aloha and Komakai Jewelry.

XO, My
What: We are all on the edge of our seats for the Big V-Day. In fact, everyone’s probably wishing it would come a little earlier so we can indulge in a year’s worth of pent-up lovey-doveyness. Get a head start at the BYCHARI and Owens & Co. XO event this Friday for a little early Valentine’s cheer. Shop for fresh pieces from the new BYCHARI collection, out just in time for the biggest jewelry giving (and getting!) holiday of the year, and indulge further on treats such as champagne. Nothing says love like baubles and bubbly!
When: Friday, Feb. 6, 4–9 p.m.
Where: Owens & Co., 1152 Nu‘uanu Ave.
Details: Call 531-4300 for more information.

Lip-Smackingly Good
What: Love is seriously in the air right now, so you’re sure to fall for one of the beautiful pieces at Magnolia’s Take a Bite Out of Love event this Saturday. We’re talking handmade Hawaiian jewelry by Lenei Souza—because you totally wear your heart on your wrist—and rustic wooden heart pieces by Nadia Fairlamb. And, of course, because everyone wants to show their tummies some love, there will be tasty treats and refreshments to munch on while you shop. We’re already swooning.
When: Saturday, Feb. 7, 11 a.m.–3 p.m.
Where: Magnolia, Kāhala Mall
Details: Call 734-2200 for more information.

Seeing Stars
What: You and your sweetie seriously have a romance written in the stars. Which is why your perfect Valentine date will be attending the Hokulani Imaginarium’s Star-Crossed Lovers program. Including wine, flowers, treats and an astro-themed photo booth, the event will also feature star lore expert Krissie Kellogg’s “grown-up version” (wink wink) of constellation mythology. And no messing around here—proof of age is required for this R-rated version of mythical gods’ and goddesses’ romantic exploits. It’s also pretty popular and expected to sell out, so make sure you reserve your spots soon.
When: Saturday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
Where: The Hokulani Imaginarium, Windward Community College, 45-720 Kea‘ahala Road, Kāne‘ohe
Details: Tickets are $15 a person at the door. Cash or check only. Call 235-7433 to make reservations by Feb. 13.

Suit Up
What: We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: A Hawai‘i girl can never have too many swimsuits. And because one more place to snag our favorite type of clothing means one more way to find happiness, we are all about the Canyon Beachwear store that opened in Waikīkī last month. The first O‘ahu location to date, the line of boutiques prides itself on having suits for every body. In addition, the store carries breezy resortwear, such as beautiful feminine kaftans, cover-ups and flirty sundresses. To the beach!
Where: Waikīkī Beach Walk, 226 Lewers St.
Details: Call 924-1619 for more information.

Gaiman On
What: Lovers of fantastical, contemporary, spooky, well-written, imaginative fiction (all of us, right?) are rejoicing at yesterday’s release of Neil Gaiman’s latest installment of short stories, Trigger Warning. This marks the third collection of short fiction from the mastermind behind American Gods, Coraline and The Sandman, a collection that includes a never-before-published American Gods story (!) and a very special Doctor Who story. Excuse us while we nerd out.
Where: Available on amazon.com.
Details: $17.56 for hardcover versions.
