Looking for something special this Mother’s Day? A number of Hale Aina Award-winning restaurants have some spectacular specials to take care of mom. All of the specials below take place on Sunday, May 10, 2009, unless noted. Enjoy!

Halekulani’s La Mer will present a very special Mother’s Day Lunch (Déjeuner de la Fête des Mères). It’s the one day a year that the restaurant is open for lunch(two seatings at 11:30 a.m. and noon). Treat mom to some decadent French cuisine at this multiple, consistent award-winning restaurant.  The special prix fixe menu start swith a glass of Champagne, and your choice of:
 

  • Warm White Asparagus from the Loire Valley served with Maltaise Sauce
  • Quail and Foie Gras Terrine, Frisée Salad with Lardons and Poached Quail Egg
    or
  • Scallops and Spinach Vol-au-Vent, Sauce Bercy with Fine Herb

Then enjoy a "Monaco Style" Fish Soup en Croûte before your choice of:

Mother’s Day at The Melting Pot on Maui brings a special fondue lunch for mom. The restaurant will be open for Lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and for dinner at 5 p.m. and will feature a special Three-Course Menu for just $27 per person (with  a minimum of 2 people)

The menu will feature Cheese Fondue, a Savory Salad, and Chocolate Fondue. You can also add-on Entree plates for $9. Entree options include:

Hoku’s is featuring over 50 items in it’s special Mother’s Day brunch buffet, including made-to-order Sushi and Ahi Poke Musubi; King Crab Legs, Shrimp Tempura; Roast Chinese Duck; Roasted Prime Rib of Beef; and a pleathora of desserts. Treat Mom to a Taste of France at Brasserie Du Vin.

Du Vin will be offering a special prix fixe brunch menu from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Chef Sott Nelson has created a menu that will offer you a choice of one appetizer, entree and desert and sommelier Tiana Kahakauwila is working her magic to offer special drinks for Mom!

  • Anjou Aunty. Like biting into an Anjou pear: Absolut Pear Vodka and apple liqueur make for a refreshing treat.

Traditional cocktails, wine and Champagne by the glass and bottle, specialty coffees and non-alcoholic drinks also available.

The celebration starts with a  Mother’s Day Brunch  from 9 am – 3 pm over at The Pineapple Room.

The special brunch will feature a variety of Action Stations with Hand Carved Striploin, Baked Ham, Pineapple Cobbler, Carved Chinese Roast Duck and Omelets Made to Order.

It’ll also feature a variety of pre-plated and buffet style selections including: a "Seafood Benedict"

Then Alan Wong’s Restaurant on King Street will host a 4-course Mother’s Day dinner  from 4:30 pm – 10 pm. Start with a   "Seafood Salad" with Crab "Tofu", Butterfish Poke, Kampachi Sashimi, Spicy Ahi, Watercress, Myoga, Mitsuba & Shiso, Wasabi Tofu Mousse.

Then your choice of one:

Chef de cuisine Rodney Uyehara has created a Mother’s Day brunch your mother will not soon forget at the Beachhouse at the Moana.

The Mothers Day brunch will be served from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with seatings every half hour.
A few of the menu highlights include striploin of beef with horseradish cream and thyme cabernet jus, herb crusted dijonnaise ‘prime samm’ australian roasted rack of lamb with essence of passion fruit glace. Buffet entrée choices include international artisinal and domestic cheeses served with lavosh, crackers & sweet butter; an array of cold served platters including ahi ‘maguro’ sashimi with shoyu mustard, steamed shrimp in their shell, sliced tako poke and ahi poke with ogo seaweed, wild Atlantic salmon with a light beechwood smoke, mini bagels, sour cream, capers and sweet Texas onions, and assorted maki and inari sushi served with organic tamari soy sauce.

A selection of salads will include a Caesar salad station, Hana avocados, Puna papayas, jicama, shrimp and wild ‘nalo’ arugala, Hamakua tomatoes, buffala mozarella loaf & basil shavings, ‘sub mariner’ ocean salad, Grecian button mushrooms and grape tomatoes, spicy Kunia slopes vegetable salad, lemon oil chili cilantro, ginger free range chicken, lychee, asparagus, bok choy and Chinatown snow peas, lomi lomi salmon ceviche, spinach petals & crispy won ton threads, fingerling potato salad with snipped chives and pancetta, baby upcountry field greens, assorted dressings, spicy sweet potato and cilantro king crab chowder, and an assortment of freshly baked rustique, French dinner and wheat bread rolls.

Hot entrees will include braised veal cheeks with orzo cepe rissoto and hauula pencil asparagus, a duet of fire-grilled pacific mahimahi filet and Alaskan Chinook sautéed salmon with a ‘Hamakua heritage’ mushroom mix, pesto sage, ravioli with spinach and roasted garlic, accompanied by chicken and apple chipolata & golden grape tomatoes, seafood gazpacho, Hudson Bay scallops, Manila clams and sweet rock shrimp, maple leaf duckling, trio of root vegetables & raspberry ginger glaze, Yukon potatoes with shiitake mushrooms and fine herbs, Georgia peach crepes with Tahitian vanilla sauce, poached Hawaiian-style kalua pork eggs benedict on taro muffins and ponzu hollandaise sauce, crispy applewood smoked bacon and broiled Portuguese sausage, roasted Kunia vegetable marinated spring medley, and jasmine scented rice.

The dessert station will feature a chocolate fountain served with marshmallows, pineapple, strawberries, bananas, chiffon cake and cookies. Other featured desserts will include Dutch apple tarts, coconut cake, assorted mousses, Italian cheesecake, tiramisu, haupia torte, fresh fruit tart, macadamia nut cream tart, sacher torte, French pastries, Wailua kona coffee brownies, chocolate macadamia nut torte, raspberry mousse cake, chocolate whipped tarts, Dino’s apple banana bread pudding with Kahlua vanilla sauce, and an assortment of sliced seasonal fruits.

RumFire at the Sheraton Waikiki’s chef Colin Hazama has woven together a tapestry of island-inspired flavors for Mothers Day. Situated right on Waikiki Beach, RumFire offers a chance to play tourist for the day while treating mom to a wonderful dinner at one of Hawaii’s hottest restaurants.

This four-course Mothers Day dinner menu will be offered from 5 – 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 10 for $65 per person and for $85 per person with libations.

First course is a Reconstructed Caprese Salad with marinated hamakua cocktail tomato, smoked baby mozzarella, thai basil pesto, hydroponic maui watercress, foccacia crisps and a lehua honey balsalmic reduction. Paired with Chandon Napa sparkling Rose.

Second course is a Steamed Moi Hukilau Style with alii mushroom stuffed moi, Big Island baby abalone and kahuku sea asparagus relish, and lemongrass shrimp nage

Third course is a Fresh Horseradish Wasabi-Crusted Filet Mignon with a red wine Maui onion marmalade, scallion leek potato cake, tempura gobo, soy sake veal glace. Paired with Paringa sparkling Shiraz.

Finally for dessert, enjoy Strawberries And Chocolate with white chocolate lavender panna cotta layered with dark chocolate macadamia nut mousse, kula strawberry opal basil soup, gingered sesame tuille. Paired with Elio Perrone “Bigaro” Moscato/Brachetto blend.

Complimentary valet parking and validated self-parking at the Sheraton Waikiki garage will be available. All applicable taxes will be added and a 17 percent gratuity will be applied for parties of seven or more.

VINO Italian Tapas and Wine Bar will open early for a rare occassion and host a Mother’s Day Brunch from 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.  Enjoy a 4-course menu that will consist of:

Mother’s Day at Chef Mavro will also include  a 4-course dinner and a special complimentary take-home gift bag of handcrafted blondies. For a special price of $74 or $127 with wine pairings. Menu substitutions are possible from the 3-course and 6-course menus also available that evening . 

Chef Mavro’s special Mother’s Day Menu will offer an opportunity to taste the bounty of Hawaii with abalone and flounder fresh from the Big Island’s Keahole cold-water; from Australia Blackmore Wagyu beef; and a delicious fresh fruit finish, the Spring Berries and Hibiscus Pavlova (meringue).

As part of the buffet, Tiki’s is debuting its Exotic Mashed and Mixed Potato Bar. Get your choice for condiments – mixed and sautéed by our chefs. The 90 minutes Brunch is available for $29.95 excluding tax and gratuities, $14.95 for children 5 – 12 years. Reservation are required, and are in 90 minute increments at 10:30am, 12:00pm, and1:30pm.

Dinner will be in regular operation but it is strongly recommend that you to make a reservation for either 5:00, 7:00 pm or after 9:00pm.
