HONOLULU Magazine revealed the winners of this year’s 32nd Hale ‘Aina Awards on Sunday, Sept. 27 at The Royal Hawaiian. Guests dined on dishes from 13 award-winning restaurants, sipped on signature cocktails and listened to live entertainment.
Community partners in Hawai‘i were invited to an evening reception with the Alaska Airlines senior leadership team. Guests were treated to heavy pūpū’s, Washington wines and a performance by Henry Kapono. The exclusive event was held at the Moana Surfrider on Monday, Sept. 21.
The first-ever Amazing Hawai‘i Comic Con came to Honolulu on Sept. 18–20 at the Hawai‘i Convention Center. The three-day event included special guests, such as Stan Lee, Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld, Bob’s Burgers character designer Devin Roth, local cartoonist Jon Murakami and many more.
Thousands of fans gathered on Queen’s Beach to kick off Hawai‘i Five-0’s Season 6 premiere. The show’s stars Alex O’Loughlin, Daniel Dae Kim, Grace Park, Chi McBride, Jorge Garcia, Ian Anthony Dale, Teilor Grubbs, Dennis Chun, Shawn Garnett, Taylor Wily, Sarah Carter and executive producer Peter Lenkov made appearances on the red carpet.
Kapi‘olani Community College broke ground on the The Culinary Institute of the Pacific at Diamond Head. The institute will become the home of a new culinary facility.
Hawai‘i doctors listed in the 2015 Top Doctors were invited to a special event at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel on Sept. 10 to celebrate their honor.
The Hawai‘i Food & Wine Festival’s Chopstix & Cocktails event featured specialty cocktails, wines and beer at the Modern Honolulu.
At the VA Games, 84 teams of athletes competed for cash prizes and helped to raise funds for local charities.

The 6th annual Rice Fest featured more than 20 vendors creating rice-inspired dishes. The festival included entertainment and a Poke bowl and Spam musubi eating contest. The event was held at Ward Village on Saturday, Sept. 5.
