Hawaiʻi is Reopening Some State Parks

You can now get out and get fresh air at a few of your favorite landmarks.

State parks are reopening so people across the state can exercise, from a distance. The state Department of Land and Natural Resources Chair Suzanne Case announced more than 25 parks including Ka‘ena Point State Park, Kaiwi State Scenic Shoreline and Sand Island State Recreation park will reopen, however only for hiking and ocean activities during the day. Facilities will stay closed.

Other popular sites, such as Diamond Head State Monument and He‘eia State Park, where it can be difficult to keep large groups of people 6 feet apart, will remain closed.

The DLNR says people are still advised to keep practicing social distancing, which means excluding parties, picnics and camping. Case also recommends that people visit parks and beaches in their own neighborhoods to keep the number of visitors spread out.
