Did this: Moiliili Summer Fest

Last night in Moiliili a neighborhood came to life, old and new joining in a seamless celebration that you couldn’t help but feel just didn’t want to end. Moiliili Summer Fest drew thousands to the vast parking lot where Varsity Theatres once stood, packing them in among a bon dance, food booths, popup shops and keiki games.

There were kids wearing summer yukata, seniors in wheelchairs and everybody in between. Even dogs showed up in yukata and ate shave ice. The bon dance circles around the yagura tower were thronged and food booths ran out by the end of the night.

To eat, to dance, to shop. Totally our kind of night. Hana hou, Moiliili Summer Fest, we’ll see you next year.

A perfect night: Clouds hid the sun through the afternoon but brought no rain, and when evening came the chochin lanterns lit up the scene.
