A Guide to Upcoming Road Closures This Weekend in Honolulu: Oct. 20-22, 2017

Lane (closures), lane (closures), go away. Come again another day.

Don’t go anywhere this weekend until you read up on our list of road closures. Rainy weather and traffic? You‘ll want to be prepared.

Note: Lane closure schedules may change but at least we warned you these are planned. 

H-1 Freeway

‘Aiea

On Saturday, Oct. 21, the eastbound right lane near the Kaonohi Street Overpass will be closed from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. for maintenance work.

Honolulu

Beginning on Sunday night, Oct. 22, through Friday, Oct. 27, up to three right lanes will be closed in the eastbound direction between the Palama Street Underpass and the Queen Emma Street Overpass from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. for guardrail improvements.

There will be a 24-hour shoulder closure between the Liliha Street Overpass and the Queen Emma Street Overpass from Friday, Oct. 20, through Friday, Oct. 27, for guardrail and shoulder improvements.

Kapolei

A westbound right lane will be closed between the Makakilo Drive Overpass and the Kalaeloa Boulevard Overpass for utility installations.

• Sunday, Oct. 22 through Friday, Oct. 27, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

• Monday Oct. 24, through Friday, Oct. 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Pearl Harbor

Heading westbound on Saturday, Oct. 21, one right lane will be closed for a triathlon from the Valkenburgh Street On-Ramp to the Kāne‘ohe/Honolulu Off-Ramp (Exit 13B). Lanes will begin to close starting between 3:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. and are expected to reopen by 11 a.m. or as the last athlete passes through the area.

Waimalu

Three eastbound lanes will be closed between the Ka‘ahumanu Street Overpass on Saturday, Oct. 21, from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for maintenance work.

H-3 Freeway

Halawa to Kāne‘ohe

On Saturday, Oct. 21, all lanes towards Kāne‘ohe will be closed for a triathlon between the Halawa Interchange and the Kāne‘ohe Bay Drive Off-Ramp (Exit 15). Motorists may access the Marine Corps Base through the Kāne‘ohe Bay Drive On-Ramp to the H-3 Freeway. Lanes will begin to close starting at 3:30 a.m. to 6 a.m. and are expected to reopen by 11 a.m. or as the last athlete passes through the area.

Farrington Highway

Nānākuli

One lane between Haleakala Ave. and Nānākuli Ave. will be closed in the eastbound direction Sunday, Oct. 22, through Friday, Oct. 27, from 8:30 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. for utility work.

There will be a 24-hour shoulder closure from Friday, Oct. 20, to Friday, Oct. 27, in the eastbound direction between Lualei Place and Mohihi Street for restoration and landscaping.

Kalaniana‘ole Highway

Kailua

Westbound, between Kailua Road and Kapa‘a Quarry Road, there will be a roving lane closure on Saturday, Oct. 21, from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for maintenance work.

Kamehameha Highway

Pearl City

The left lanes in both directions between Pu‘u Poni Street and Ka‘ahumanu Street will be closed for electrical maintenance work on Friday, Oct. 20, through Saturday, Oct. 21, from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.

Pearl Harbor

Lanes may be closed in both directions between Kohomua Street and Center Drive on Saturday, Oct. 21, and from Monday, Oct. 23, to Friday, Oct. 27, for the rail project.

• Eastbound, up to two lanes may be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.

• Westbound, one lane may be closed from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.

LikeLike Highway

Kalihi to Kāne‘ohe

The highway will be closed in the Kāne‘ohe direction, between Valley View Drive and the Wilson Tunnel, on Saturday, Oct. 21, through Sunday, Oct. 22, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. for routine tunnel maintenance.

Nimitz Highway

Honolulu

All westbound lanes between Pu‘uhale Road and Valkenburgh Street will be closed for a triathlon on Saturday, Oct. 2. There will be a detour at Pu‘uhale Road and Kamehameha Highway to guide motorists onto the westbound H-1 Freeway. Lanes will begin to close starting at 3:30 a.m. to 6 a.m. and are expected to reopen by 11 a.m. or as the last athlete passes through the area.

Westbound between Sand Island Access Road and Ahua Street, the right lane will be closed for electrical maintenance on Saturday, Oct. 21, from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.

On Friday, Oct. 20, through Sunday, Oct. 22, and Monday, Oct. 23, through Friday, Oct. 27, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., there will be lane closures in both directions for the rail project. Visit honolulutransit.org for more details. 

Pali Highway

Nu‘uanu

The right lane near Waokanaka Street will be closed in the Kāne‘ohe direction for maintenance on Saturday, Oct. 21, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Ala Moana Boulevard

Honolulu

Ala Moana Boulevard will be closed between Queen Street and Pi‘ikoi Street in the eastbound direction from 5 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21 through 5 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 23, for drainage repairs. Traffic will be contraflowed in the westbound lanes.

Two westbound lanes from Kamake‘e Street to Pu‘uhale Road will be closed for a triathlon on Saturday, Oct. 21. The lanes between Kamake‘e Street and Ward Ave., will begin to close at 3:30 a.m. and move west. Lanes will reopen as the last athlete passes through the area.

There will be an alternating lane closure in both directions near Halekauwila Street on Friday, Oct. 20, through Saturday, Oct. 21, from 9:30 p.m. to 3 a.m. for maintenance.

Keahumoa Parkway

Kapolei

The right lane will be closed in both directions near Kualakai Parkway on Friday, Oct. 20, thorough Friday, Oct. 27, for the rail project. Visit honolulutransit.org for more details. 

Kunia Road

Waipahu

On Saturday, Oct. 21, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., there will be a roving closure for maintenance work between the H-1 Freeway and Wilikina Drive.

Aolele Street
