Hot Dog

What: It’s been so hot and muggy lately that we almost don’t want to leave the house, even to shop—almost. Honolulu Night Market’s Dog Days of Summer event, happening this Saturday, is a definite exception to the rule. Probably because, in addition to a fashion show by Bamboo Sky, great eats from vendors including The Pig and the Lady and Petit Suisse Crepes, and the usual sweet shopping at booths by the likes of Kira Hawai‘i and San Lorenzo, there will also be a dedicated Pet Shop and a dedicated Men’s Shop. That means you and your other half are getting spoiled this weekend.
When: Saturday, July 18, 6–11 p.m. Fashion show at 8 p.m.

Bye, Bye, Bye

What: We’re always so sad to see one of our beloved local boutiques go. Divalicious is shuttering its doors after five years of serving up style. The only silver lining on the tragedy? Closing sales. Everything in the store will be marked down—including the fixtures, so head down to get in on the savings and say goodbye while you still can.
When: Friday, July 17, 10 a.m.–8 p.m.; Saturday, July 18 and Sunday, July 19, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.

Fest in Show

What: Art- and North-Shore-lovers unite: This weekend’s annual Hale‘iwa Arts Festival is where you’ll want to be. The festival will bring together 140 visual artists, from photographers to painters, including local artist Heather Brown’s distinct brand of feel-good images. There will also be live performance art every hour, a tent for the kids with free art projects, and delish food for you to snack on while you browse. Oh, did we mention it’s free? If you plan your day right, you may even be able to squeeze in some beach time.

Ratted Out

What: Electronic-rock band Ratatat captured our little alt hearts with its cool-college-kid sound (not to mention those hip-hop remixes we couldn’t stop playing on repeat). After the duo’s last release, LP4, five long years ago, we were starting to worry that these Brooklyn artists had dropped off the face of the earth for good. Well, the hipster in you can rest easy, because Ratatat’s new album, Magnifique, came out today and has been described as a smoother, no-frills product than previous Ratatat work.
