8 Ways to Fill Your Weekend Agenda
Lei Chic’s guide to the weekend’s best events.

Shop
Hot Dog
What: It’s been so hot and muggy lately that we almost don’t want to leave the house, even to shop—almost. Honolulu Night Market’s Dog Days of Summer event, happening this Saturday, is a definite exception to the rule. Probably because, in addition to a fashion show by Bamboo Sky, great eats from vendors including The Pig and the Lady and Petit Suisse Crepes, and the usual sweet shopping at booths by the likes of Kira Hawai‘i and San Lorenzo, there will also be a dedicated Pet Shop and a dedicated Men’s Shop. That means you and your other half are getting spoiled this weekend.
When: Saturday, July 18, 6–11 p.m. Fashion show at 8 p.m.
Where: 449 Cooke St.
Details: On-site and street parking. Additional paid parking available at Restaurant Row.
Shop
Bye, Bye, Bye
What: We’re always so sad to see one of our beloved local boutiques go. Divalicious is shuttering its doors after five years of serving up style. The only silver lining on the tragedy? Closing sales. Everything in the store will be marked down—including the fixtures, so head down to get in on the savings and say goodbye while you still can.
When: Friday, July 17, 10 a.m.–8 p.m.; Saturday, July 18 and Sunday, July 19, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
Where: 850 West Hind Drive
Details: Cash and carry only, with pick-up of the large fixtures available on Sunday, July 19.
Attend
Fest in Show
What: Art- and North-Shore-lovers unite: This weekend’s annual Hale‘iwa Arts Festival is where you’ll want to be. The festival will bring together 140 visual artists, from photographers to painters, including local artist Heather Brown’s distinct brand of feel-good images. There will also be live performance art every hour, a tent for the kids with free art projects, and delish food for you to snack on while you browse. Oh, did we mention it’s free? If you plan your day right, you may even be able to squeeze in some beach time.
When: Saturday, July 18, 10 a.m.–6 p.m. and Sunday, July 19, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
Where: Hale‘iwa Beach Park, 62-449 Kamehameha Highway, Hale‘iwa
Details: Call 637-2277 for more information.

Read
Girl Power
What: Looking for some career inspiration? Read Refinery29’s On the Verge article, a Q&A with eight young female professionals who are making waves in the tech world, whether through entrepreneurial endeavors, nonprofit initiatives or community outreach. These millennial gals share their success stories, challenges and advice, and it’s the epitome of girl power.
Where: refinery29.com
Details: We love the interviews the best, but a close second fave about this piece is the on-point styling on these powerful, innovative ladies. Think cutting-edge, office-appropriate chic taken to the next level. Def going to turn to this for some workweek style inspo.
Register
Gal Pals
What: OK, so we know this is more of a next-weekend deal, but we don’t want you to miss the #galswithLEI forum—so register now! This half-day event will be packed with workshops, networking and an open-space forum honoring female business and social entrepreneurs from Hawai‘i, the Mainland and the Asia-Pacific region. Speakers include Shelley Wilson of Wilson Care Group, Ann Botticelli of Hawaiian Airlines and Jamie Makasobe of Kealopiko.
When: Thursday, July 23, 3–8 p.m.
Where: East-West Center’s IMIN Conference Center, 1601 East-West Road
Details: For more information and to register, visit eastwestcenter.org.

Listen
Ratted Out
What: Electronic-rock band Ratatat captured our little alt hearts with its cool-college-kid sound (not to mention those hip-hop remixes we couldn’t stop playing on repeat). After the duo’s last release, LP4, five long years ago, we were starting to worry that these Brooklyn artists had dropped off the face of the earth for good. Well, the hipster in you can rest easy, because Ratatat’s new album, Magnifique, came out today and has been described as a smoother, no-frills product than previous Ratatat work. Weekend soundtrack selected? Check.

Personality Best
What: When we’re having an identity crisis, the Internet is always there to help, with a handy test letting us know which Disney couple is our ideal relationship, where we belong in Honolulu and which Myers-Briggs personality paradigm we fit. The latest—and perhaps most useful—test? This one that helps you figure out which book is best for your summer reading. The personality-test-like assessment makes it easy as pie to plan out your next library trip. Thanks again, Internet! You always know what we need.
