You’ll definitely want to check out the upcoming HIFI Connects event, where successful local-born fashion businesspeople Kay Sides, Malia Jones and Robert Ikeda will discuss the challenges and process of taking a brand from concept to production to the sales floor. What: Watch downtown go absolutely nuts (in the best way) once again this year at the Hallowbaloo Music and Arts Festival. This year, the lineup includes a Hallowbaloo kickoff concert, street festival and ball at the Hawai‘i State Art Museum, as well as the late-night club portion. Don’t miss trolling the crowds of kooky and creative costume-clad revelers while you check out street vendors and performers. If you’re looking for a more upscale affair, the Hallowbaloo ball will be a grandiose affair with cocktails and culinary creations and balcony views of the main stage.
When: Saturday, Oct. 31. Starts at 5:30 p.m.

What: Bring the kids to Kewalo Basin this Halloween for a totally delicious way to spend this spooktacular holiday. The waterfront will be packed with activities for the keiki, plus costume contests and food trucks for everyone, including booths by Tea on Fleek, Shaka Shrimp and I Love Tacos. Emcee and DJ Lil’ Guy will be pumping things up with tunes for a keiki dance party, and adults can imbibe in Halloween drink specials at the Makers and Tasters bar. But here’s The Nightmare Before Christmas in a way you’ve never seen it before: projected onto the Blaisdell Concert Hall’s big screen, with dialogue, singing and effects accompanied by the Hawai‘i Symphony Orchestra’s rendition of the classic score. Your childhood self just died and went to Halloweentown—er, heaven.

What: It’s going to be a scary fun weekend, so what better time to throw a Dia de los Muertos-themed party? Head to Eat the Street to check out this festive street fair, which will feature Mexican-themed flavors from some of its vendors, which include Mega Load Burgers, Local Stop and Fresh Catch. Think kālua nachos on ‘ulu chips from Aloha ’Aina Poi Co. And don’t forget to check out the resident sugar-skull face painter, who will be making up malevolent mugs just in time for the costume contest at 6:30 p.m.
