Master Class
What: When it comes to fashion, you’re all business. No, seriously—where’s an entrepreneur/designer supposed to get started in this industry? You’ll definitely want to check out the upcoming HIFI Connects event, where successful local-born fashion businesspeople Kay Sides, Malia Jones and Robert Ikeda will discuss the challenges and process of taking a brand from concept to production to the sales floor. Tickets are limited, so put purchasing them on your to-do list this weekend.
When: Friday, Nov. 6, 6:30–8:30 p.m.
Where: Honolulu Design Center Cupola Theatre
Details: $25. Visit hawaiifashion.org for more information and to purchase tickets.

Back in Black
What: Black hearts, rejoice: Halloween is just about here, which means you’ll finally be able to let your dark little soul shine. Why not dress the part? At The Cut Collective’s trunk show, happening tonight, snag some stylish black pieces by Ten Tomorrow for 15 percent off. The best part? These modern silhouettes are perfect all year round—even beyond Halloween. You’ll also be able to shop for past collections at up to 75 percent off, in addition to checking out goods from the other Cut Collective brands, Allison Izu and Rumi Murakami.
When: Friday, Oct. 30, 5–8 p.m.
Where: 2800 Woodlawn Drive

Hit the Streets
What: Watch downtown go absolutely nuts (in the best way) once again this year at the Hallowbaloo Music and Arts Festival. This year, the lineup includes a Hallowbaloo kickoff concert, street festival and ball at the Hawai‘i State Art Museum, as well as the late-night club portion. Don’t miss trolling the crowds of kooky and creative costume-clad revelers while you check out street vendors and performers. If you’re looking for a more upscale affair, the Hallowbaloo ball will be a grandiose affair with cocktails and culinary creations and balcony views of the main stage.
When: Saturday, Oct. 31. Starts at 5:30 p.m.
Where: Street fair happening through Hotel Street. Ball happening at the Hawai‘i State Art Museum.
Details: $5 admission for street fair, $80 for ball tickets, $20 for club wristbands. Visit our Hallowbaloo guide for more information or Eventbrite purchase tickets.

Dance Floored
What: Bring the kids to Kewalo Basin this Halloween for a totally delicious way to spend this spooktacular holiday. The waterfront will be packed with activities for the keiki, plus costume contests and food trucks for everyone, including booths by Tea on Fleek, Shaka Shrimp and I Love Tacos. Emcee and DJ Lil’ Guy will be pumping things up with tunes for a keiki dance party, and adults can imbibe in Halloween drink specials at the Makers and Tasters bar. Snag a free keiki goodie bag while supplies last, check out the pumpkin patch photo opp and visit the face-painting and balloon-artist booths.
When: Saturday, Oct. 31, 5–8 p.m.
Where: 1011 Ala Moana Blvd.
Details: Visit makersandtasters.com for more information.

Music to My Ears
What: You watch The Nightmare Before Christmas every Halloween (and Christmas). You think Jack and Sally have the perfect relationship. You’ve had nightmares about Oogie Boogie. We get it, you’re a fan. But here’s The Nightmare Before Christmas in a way you’ve never seen it before: projected onto the Blaisdell Concert Hall’s big screen, with dialogue, singing and effects accompanied by the Hawai‘i Symphony Orchestra’s rendition of the classic score. Your childhood self just died and went to Halloweentown—er, heaven.
When: Saturday, Oct. 31, 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 1, 2 p.m.
Where: Blaisdell Concert Hall
Details: Visit hawaiisymphonyorchestra.org for more information.

Grateful Dead
What: It’s going to be a scary fun weekend, so what better time to throw a Dia de los Muertos-themed party? Head to Eat the Street to check out this festive street fair, which will feature Mexican-themed flavors from some of its vendors, which include Mega Load Burgers, Local Stop and Fresh Catch. Think kālua nachos on ‘ulu chips from Aloha ’Aina Poi Co. And don’t forget to check out the resident sugar-skull face painter, who will be making up malevolent mugs just in time for the costume contest at 6:30 p.m.
When: Friday, Oct. 30, 5–10 p.m.
Where: 1011 Ala Moana Blvd.
Details: Visit eatthestreethawaii.com for more information.
