Where: Downbeat Lounge, 42 N. Hotel St.

Say It Light

What: Christmas is all about the lights. I mean, suburban dads spend hours and oodles of money trying to make their houses the lightshow talk of the town. (Unless they are the geniuses behind this house, they’ve got a long way to go.) That’s why we’re all about celebrating the season in a totally light-tastic way at Bishop Museum’s Laser Holidays show, where laser lights dance under the museum’s planetarium dome to the tune of holiday music classics. Who says Christmas has to end on Dec. 26? We say make it last with this fun event.
When: Saturday, Dec. 26, 7 p.m.
Where: Bishop Museum, 1525 Bernice St.
Details: $10. Book your tickets here.

Watch

A Killer Plot

What: Take a break from all the Star Wars: The Force Awakens buzz and head to Doris Duke Theatre to catch The Assassin, legendary Taiwanese director Hou Hsiao-hsien’s first film in eight years. Leading lady Shu Qi always kills it as a kick-ass main character, so her role as a skilled assassin tasked with killing an important politician (who happens to be her former lover) is sure to be striking. Plus, we’re loving the ambience: Check out the trailer for a taste of the lush and epic Tang Dynasty setting. Still need convincing? Hsiao-hsien took home the Best Director award at the Cannes Film Festival for the picture.
When: Sunday, Dec. 27, 4 p.m.
Where: Doris Duke Theatre, 901 Kīna‘u St.
Details: $10. Book your tickets here

Trend For Yourself

What: Black lips. Knee-high boots. Naked dresses. Love ’ em or hate ’ em, 2015 had some seriously memorable fashion moments, so we can’t wait to see what the next year holds. The experts at Refinery29 have got their eyes on the future as well, with a slew of predictions for the coming 12 months that have got us both nodding our heads (plus-size models for sure) and balking in disbelief (granny shoes? Really? Please no!).
Where: refinery29.com
Details: Looks like we’ll have to stop avoiding Snapchat and finally figure out how it all works.

That’s A Wrap

What: You’ve put so much thought into your gifts—one your sister won’t want to return, one your dad will actually understand and one your best friend won’t have already gotten for herself—that you totally forgot about the wrap. Never fear, MORI is here. Swing by the Ward Village shop to get your parcel gussied up for $6–$14, depending on the size. Choose from an exclusive, perfectly on-brand rustic MORI gift wrap or traditional wraps, and get a free letterpress tag from local Jiwa Jiwa Press. Christmas game: strong.
When: Today, noon–10 p.m. and tomorrow, noon–6 p.m.
Where: MORI, Ward Village Shops
Details: Super behind schedule with your shopping? Double up and snag your gifts in-store. The MORI team whipped up an adorable gift guide to give you some ideas.

Run For It

What: You just spent a whole week of shopping, baking, eating sweets, opening presents and generally being as consumerist and gluttonous as you could. Hey, it’s Christmas! No judgments. But, maybe this is a good time to throw in an event for a good cause this weekend? Here’s your chance: The Water For the World Run is happening on Saturday and raises awareness about global access to clean water. The short, 5K course is a scenic route around Kapi‘olani Park that ends with a finish line and—get this!—150-foot water slide.
When: Saturday, Dec. 26, 8 a.m.
Where: 2805 Monsarrat Ave.
Details: Call 785-5400 for more information.
