10 Mother’s Day Meals Available for Takeout and Delivery in Honolulu

Brunch is just the beginning. Local restaurants offer everything from a 16-dish buffet experience to all-day eating to-go for mom’s big day.

Mothers Day won’t include reservations out to eat this year. But takeout is a way to bring the buffet home without you having to cook dozens of dishes because frankly, mom does it better. If brunch is your family’s favorite, Café Kailas Mothers Day family meal comes with cinnamon French toast, scrambled eggs, bacon, Portuguese sausage, Café Kaila’s fried rice and blueberry cream cheese scones. The meal for four also comes with flowers from Rainforest Flowers arranged in a Café Kaila mug.

Chef Chai is providing an entire buffet menu. The 16 dishes, in tasting-style portions, include Alaskan king crab cakes with fresh tomato mango salsa, gravlax salmon sashimi with caper berries and lemon dill cream, braised boneless short ribs, Mongolian-style lamb chops with merlot demi and mashed potato, New Zealand king salmon with pineapple and Granny Smith apple relish, vegetables terrine, steamed turmeric and roasted garlic jasmine rice and espresso tiramisu, Thai tapioca pudding with haupia cream and more for dessert. Add on steamed Alaskan King crab legs for an extra treat.

Nothing says I love you like duck-fat fried rice. DB Grill’s Mother’s Day special also includes a 30-ounce prime garlic-crusted rib-eye steak, garlic shrimp, tofu salad, sauteed vegetables, dessert and a kit for two DIY soju cocktails in flavors ranging from li hing gummy bear to chile mango.

Hy’s Steak House’s Mother’s Day menu serves five with 2 ½ pounds of kiawe-grilled, Kona coffee-crusted tenderloin with truffle demi-glace. It comes with cheesy biscuits, mixed greens salad with honey balsamic vinaigrette, seasonal vegetable medley with sun-dried tomato pesto, country smashed potatoes, a strawberry panna cotta for dessert and a special gift of four chocolate truffles and a card for kids to color. M by Chef Mavro has a special savory midday meal for mom’s special day. The set for four includes a build-your-own tartine with basil pistou and mushroom fricassee, a Peterson Farm egg frittata with 2 Lady Farmers bacon and Big Island goat cheese, croque monsieur, beef Bourguignon, Yukon Gold mashed potatoes and brioche with black sesame and cacao nibs served with salted caramel, chocolate mousse and crème fraîche. Upgrade the brunch by adding on Petrossian Caviar ($70) or champagne ($60).

Nico’s Pier 38’s Mother’s Day meal kits center around herb dijon roasted salmon served with Spanish octopus salad accompanied by crispy caper and soy Brussels sprouts, charred asparagus and cauliflower, saffron pilaf and finished with chocolate bread pudding and gelato. Don a toque blanche, grab a knife and get ready to man a carving station with a special from Pagoda Hawaiʻi. Pagoda is offering whole Mountain View suckling pigs roasted Chinese-style and served with bao buns, prime rib and snow crab legs, or a whole or half a prime rib.

With nine courses for six people, Restaurant XO’s Mother’s Day special is a big one. Beet and pumpkin roulade, banh mi cucumber salad with chicken pâté, loaded Okinawan potato au gratin, jasmine rice, and a fluffle of bunny-shaped brown butter mochi are the sides. Five main dishes range from the restaurant’s signature adobo fried chicken to XO misoyaki scallops with agedashi tofu, and sous vide duck breast and confit leg l’orange. They’ll even split the order so you can share it with another family.

Stripsteak Waikīkī and The Street Food Hall have a prix fixe menu to cover your entire day. Begin with a brunch of a build-your-own bagel bar with smoked salmon and other accompaniments, spinach and white cheddar quiche featuring local eggs, and sushi. The midday snack has hummus, house pickles, goat cheese-stuffed peppers, lavosh, crudites with ranch blue cheese dressing and mixed olives. Then, if you have room for dinner, Ora king salmon with a charred citrus and herb cintronette, Jidori chicken with mac and cheese and grilled asparagus, harissa-spiced carrots, salt-roasted beets with goat cheese and oranges and macadamia nut bread pudding and Granny Smith apple crisp for dessert. You can also add a few gifts for mom including a mimosa or bloody mary kit, aromatherapy products from Ola Tropical Apothecary or bouquets from Su-V Expressions.
