Heckathorn has been covering the dining scene in Hawaii since 1985. He's won numerous local and national awards for his dining coverage. As recently as 50 years ago, about half of our food was still produced locally. Now, it is estimated that 80 to 90 percent of our food is imported. The goal of this series is to not only perpetuate the culture through stories of Hawaii's food, but educate our community about the importance of a sustainable agriculture future.
