At Mid-Pacific, we see children with original ideas and perspectives, with dreams, aspirations, emotions and insights. We see students who celebrate these many characteristics and interests… and define for themselves who they are and how they learn. Mid-Pacific students are Innovators, Artists, and Individuals.
Mid-Pacific is a school with a rich history of innovation and was recently recognized as a 2014-2016 Apple Distinguished School. Mid-Pacific creates a learning environment that engages students and provides cutting-edge technology opportunities, such as 3-D scanning of historical sites and 3-D printing of actual human MRI data.
Partnerships with world-renowned institutions offer unprecedented opportunities, including the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s International Research Network, connecting educational networks around the globe, and Fielding Nair International, a global expert in progressive school-building design and campus master planning. The Middle School Innovation Center, a product of such partnerships, is set to open in August, 2015.
Mid-Pacific continues to shine as a leader in the arts. Sarah Spalding, a Mid-Pacific senior, became only the second Hawai‘i student in 32 years to win the English-Speaking Union’s National Shakespeare Competition at Lincoln Center in New York City. This fall, the Mid-Pacific School of the Arts – a pre-professional arts program for Grades 7-12 – will celebrate 25 years of conservatory training in the arts.
There is much more to celebrate on the beautiful 43-acre campus, nestled in Manoa Valley. This past year, Mid-Pacific won 7 State Championships (Team and Individual), created 4 Apps for the Apple Store, and digitally preserved 7 historic sites and artifacts with 3-D Laser Scanning. For the fourth year in a row, a Mid-Pacific graduate earned the distinguished John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) Award, a scholarship for both undergraduate education and medical school at the University of Hawai‘i. In the 2014-2015 school year, 500 educators from around the globe visited the Mid-Pacific campus to learn about our programs.
The uniqueness seen in Mid-Pacific students stems from the breadth and depth of our programs. From the world-renowned Reggio-Emilia inspired preschool to the prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, the School of the Arts Certificate program and Mid-Pacific Exploratory – emphasizing project-based, hands on learning – Mid-Pacific students engage in critical thinking and collaboration.
“While Mid-Pacific is dedicated to individual learning experiences, it also embodies the spirit of E Ku-lia Ka-kou – everyone striving together. That spirit is found at the heart of Mid-Pacific’s educational experience,” says President Paul Turnbull.
