New Kaimukī Boutique, Halè
The owner of this shop stocks brands she uses in her own home.
Kick off your shoes. Pour yourself a glass of wine. Light your favorite candles. And, let’s be honest, unbutton your pants.
When it comes to welcoming yourself home, it’s all about you time, whether that means watching crappy cop dramas until midnight, eating cereal for dinner or ignoring that pile of week-old dirty laundry. And, really, nothing could be better.
OK, maybe not nothing: We just stopped into Halè, Kaimukī’s newest lifestyle boutique, and we are having some major house envy. Curated by owner Alessandra Klein, the whimsical collection includes her favorite mauka-to-makai-inspired trinkets, accessories, fashion and goodies that she stocks in her own home. Think all-natural beauty products, locally made edibles and beach-ready apparel. In fact, we spotted Mamalani deodorant products, Khush clothing and Tutuvi wraps that we wouldn’t mind moving into our own place.
Klein’s no newbie to the fashion and boutique scene. As one half of the team behind now-defunct Drift, this Brazillian-born baker and designer cut her teeth running a retail business in the Islands. When her partner decided to move on, Klein spotted an opportunity to do a complete revamp, with new brands added to the roster (including My Mānoa soaps) and a special infusion of her own personal tastes, in more ways than one: Klein sells her homemade Brazillian bread and coffee in the store. And stay tuned for more from this homemaking master. She may be busy between running her own boutique, selling baked goods at farmers markets and raising two sons, but she’s still got her designer’s eye set on creating a collection of Kaimukī-inspired products. We’ll be making a housecall to Halè in the future.
In fact, we may have just found our new home away from home.
3434 Wai'alae Ave., 284-5546. Open 11 a.m.–5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Visit Halè's Facebook page for more information.
