6 Ways to While the Weekend Away

Lei Chic’s guide to the weekend’s best events.

Shop

Reyn It In

What: There are a couple of cliché Island qualities that are spot on. Love Spam? Yep. Slippahs all the time? Totally. Can’t get enough aloha shirts? Guilty as charged. That’s why we’re stoked about the opening of the expanded and rebranded Reyn Spooner  Downtown store, which means even more ways to get our favorite fashion fix. Head over there tonight for the grand opening to check out the new space and ogle the goods, and, while you’re there, snag some delish food and drinks, and have a chance to win some prizes.
When: Friday, Oct. 2, 5–7 p.m.
Where: Reyn Spooner Downtown, 124 Merchant St.
Details: Call 524-1885 for more information.

Visit

You Look Boo-tiful

What: It’s been one hard, busy summer of fun in the sun. That’s all well and good but, now that it’s over and done with, all that sun exposure has left your skin looking … let’s just say a little bit scary. We’ve got a few tricks—or should we say treats?—up our sleeves to help with that, thanks to the October specials at The Spa at Makana. Show yourself some TLC with a pumpkin facial or lemon sugar foot scrub for $35, or an upgraded premium mask with any signature facial for $15. Finally, a $25 arm or leg wax, plus 15 percent off all other body waxing, is the final thing you need to feel like a smooth criminal come the holidays.
When: Through October 31
Where: Makana Esthetics Wellness Academy, 560 N. Nimitz Highway.
Details: Call 591-6090 to book your appointment.

Attend

Cuckoo for Cocoa

What: Indulge this weekend at the 13th Annual Chocolate Extravaganza, where you and the fam can treat your sweet tooth to an all-you-can-eat chocolate buffet, including a crowd-pleasing chocolate fountain. Plus, participate in a luxe silent auction for everything from delicate pearl necklaces to gift certificates from top O‘ahu eateries. Funds raised benefit the Family Promise of Hawai‘i and Emmanuel Episcopal Church.
When: Saturday, Oct. 3, 6:30–9 p.m.
Where: Emmanuel Church, 780 Keolu Drive, Kailua
Details: $25–$35 at emmanuelkailua.com.

Vote

That’s a Wrap

What: Cue the Made-in-Hawai‘i cheerleaders! One of our fave local crafters, Sara Smith of sustainable giftwrap company Wrappily, is turning heads nationally, having just become a finalist in the 2015 Martha Stewart American-Made Audience Choice Awards in the Paper Crafts category. The awards program recognizes rising stars across the nation who have turned their passion for hand-crafted, well-designed goods into a business. Sound like Wrappily? We think so too. So we’re showing our aloha by voting for Smith on her awards program page and getting her thismuch closer to winning the $10,000 prize (not to mention valuable media exposure). Go team Hawai‘i!
When: Voting is open through Oct. 19.
Where: Vote at marthastewart.com.
Details: Visit the American Made website for more information.

Shop

Art House

What: Art aficionados and fashion aficionados go hand in hand. So grab your best gal and head down together to the Elizabeth Kent trunk show at Magnolia, where you can shop for some of Kent’s wearable art pieces, such as jackets and scarves. It’s also the last Kāhala Mall sidewalk sale of the year, so you’ll have tons of other opportunities to shop great deals from other local boutiques and brands.
When: Saturday, Oct. 3, 11 a.m.–2 p.m.
Where: Magnolia, Kāhala Mall
Details: Call 734-2200 for more information.

Shop

What: You want to slip into something sexy this weekend. Unfortunately, your underwear drawer looks like it was attacked by the granny panty monster. Ulp. Rediscover your mojo at Art and Flea’s Gypsy Hawai‘i trunk show, where this local lingerie brand will be ready and fully stocked with an array of sassy, boho panties and bras. Plus: sale alert! Snag two-for-$20 bottoms, and a free bralette with any purchase of three bottoms.
