Scarving Artist

Lei ChicWhen surf’s up you’re the number one shredder.
On land, no one tops the way you tear it up on blades or the slopes.

But when it comes to keeping your look current you wipe out every time.

It’s time you ride trend tandem with another surfer girl who’s ripping it in the accessories world.

Former MTV SURF girl and Roxy Quiksilver surf team member Aimee Vogelgesang started looking for a way to create the perfect scarf a few months ago. She found a DIY to creating one out of t-shirts, tweaked the instructions, and began selling her fuller and self-dyed versions at craft fairs and by order under the label Wanko Wanko.

Double up the light cotton loops over a tank for a beachy, cool neckline or layer a few of the soft-washed colors and let them hang long over a tunic and jeans.

Vogelgesang will make custom creations and while you're shopping, check out her corded bracelets made with hexnuts from the hardware store.

So you can easily go toes to the nose next time you need to barrel into a fashionable look.

Without getting your feet wet.

Wanko Wanko is available at Fashionista's Market Boutique, 1185 Bethel St. and Olive Boutique, 43 Kihapai St. in Kailua. You can see more of Vogelgesang’s creations on her Facebook page. Message her or e-mail wankowankohi@yahoo.com..
