Our Marketplace Picks From Past HONOLULU Fashion Week Tastemakers
These stylish veterans are bringing their A-game this year.
Sequels are an emotionally charged subject. There are some that really shouldn’t have been made (ahem, Taken 2), some that the world needs, but the stars just won’t align for (The Breakfast Club 2! It was a thing!) and some that make it all worth it (we’re looking at you, Terminator 2.)
Our Marketplace redux is in the last group. The previous HONOLULU Fashion Weeks’ sets of stylish masterminds were spot-on, but this year’s follow-up is featuring enough buzzworthy bling to seriously hold its own. We decided to get a jump on things and make our shopping list for which of these tried-and-true design mavens’ new pieces we’ll be snapping up come Fashion Week.
Just call them 2 cute.
The HONOLULU Fashion Week Marketplace will be open Thursday, Nov. 10, 5–9 p.m.; Friday, Nov. 11, 11 a.m.–9 p.m.; and Saturday, Nov. 12, 11 a.m.–9 p.m. at the Hawai‘i Convention Center. Learn more at honolulufashionweek.com.
We love the classic MYTE shaka necklace, which has been one of our staple go-to gifts for local fashionista gal pals that prefer cheeky over girly. So we’re stoked that this month the MYTE team is launching a new set of shakas—in pin form! These dear little designs will be available in black and gold or silver and white. $13
We’ve got a soft spot for clever, well-designed bottle openers that merge form and function perfectly. And, apparently, a soft spot for shakas, because this Mau House shaka opener is definitely on our must-buy list. (Psst, there will also be an ‘opihi version!) $50–$100
Soft champagne, the subtle little sister to brash gold, is on our radar right now as the toned-down, understated shade our style soul needs. Toss in delicate gold hardware and a ring of quartz beads and you’ve got Blue Bird Hawai‘i Jewelry’s picture-perfectly pretty new bracelet design. $80
Keani Jewelry has stolen our hearts when it comes to ocean-inspired precious-metal pieces, so we couldn’t miss out on its uber-edgy new releases from the Manō Struck collection. These give some creative new twists to the shark-tooth aesthetic, including a sharp stacking ring and a double ring that’s definitely ideal for layering. $40–$60
Remember Kai Ea Jewlery’s elegant Arabian Night Collection jewelry that hit the runway in the Live Aloha fashion show in 2014? Designer Kimberly Richert’s collection is still going strong, and this year she’s bring along a few new additions, including matching necklaces and bangles, perfect for combining with the OG pieces you bought in 2014. $45–$125
If there’s one thing we love more than awesome sequels, it’s cool collabs. Kira Hawai‘i teamed up with Holly Saori for perky graphic tees, which sport sassy or punny sayings in sleek type or elegant hand-lettered calligraphy. $35
Call us lushes, but we love a good tropical fern accessory. Tidepool Love’s got us covered with this gorgeous monstera statement cuff, which will be part of the brand’s Fall/Holiday 2017 line, set to debut at Fashion Week. Yep, that means you get first dibs when you stop by the event. $414
